Since I was successful in selling several guns, I decided to buy a Colt Model P clone since I haven't had one since a sneaky kid managed to appropriate it.

I didn't want to spend a lot and my primary concern was that I could see the sights. Thus, I chose the Pietta Great Western II Californian in 45 Colt caliber with a 5.5 inch barrel. I bought it from a place called Elk County Ammo and Arms off of Gun Broker and am transferring it through Chuck Spafford at Tylers.

What a bitch, Dillon sent me the wrong part for my press and I'm still trying to get the right parts so I have to load my ammo on a single stage. :mad54:

I actually drove up to Elk County Ammo and Arms about 3 weeks ago to buy an over and under I saw on Gunbroker, very nice shop.
Oh and congrats on the 6 shooter.

Cool I have a Taylors Marshal Model with the white ivory looking grips

I loaded up Black Powder cartridges for it a few months ago.
Fun part was the cleaning :)

Do they make two piece grips for the 1873? If they do, then you can clean it like the 1858 Remmys. Just take the grips off, wash it in soap and warm water, blow it off and relube and you are done.

Picked up my Californian on Friday and got out today to try some loads. Out of the box the gun was fitted really well, cylinder has no play and locks up tight, trigger is crisp but heavy and hammer is so light, I thought it wouldn't set off a primer. Last night I took it apart and stoned the trigger to something around 4 pounds just to be able to get out today. The internals were well done with fine machining. The case hardening is somewhat different than my other guns and has like a gold tint to it. I tried taking pictures but it really doesn't show well. I attached one anyway.

I made five quick three round test loads and that, plus my regular load gave me six to try. The attached target is the tightest group which was 6.3 grains of WW231 behind a Hornady cowboy cast 255gn bullet. The loads with Unique, PowerPistol, Bullseye and Red Dot were all about 2 1/2 inches at 20 yards from the bench. The WW231 load is a little larger than an inch.

I don't like the crown so I am going to recrown it and also put a 11 degree lead in the barrel. Every revolver I have done this to has shot better with cast bullets. Other than that, the only thing I need to do is bring the trigger pull down and it will be almost perfect.

This Pietta is very close to a Colt, I'm pretty impressed.
