It's the end of modern civilization. You've just found a cave for long-term shelter. As you explore it, you find freeze-dried food, 20 cases of water, 2,500 rounds of vacuum packed .357 140r JHPs, 10,000 rounds of .22LR CCI Mini-Mags and three firearms, also in freeze-dried packages: A .357 revolver, a .22LR automatic pistol and a Ruger 10/22 take down rifle.

    Oh, and two human skeletons.

As you inspect the guns, you realize that had you been given the choices of which two handguns you could have chosen beforehand, it would have been these. What are they? You also see two knives in sheaths, and even though this is a handgun forum the sysops are dead and they can't kick you off. What are the knives?

Just curious. (If you can, please post photos.)

The GP 100 isn’t nearly my favorite .357 but I do feel like I could use it as a hammer and it would keep working. So for a SHTF or end of the world scenario, that’s what I would go with.

After reading up on them, Dan Wesson with 8", 6" and 4" barrels

357 is the only cartridge there for big game hunting (Deer plus) I need a long barrel to get a longer sight radius and reach out 50 yards.
But I want a shorter barrel for normally walking around and self defense.

Outside my budget...but really want one!

My MR73 isn't quite as pretty (bottom right), but a few years ago some surplus sellers had them for reasonable prices ...

I actually would go for a 686+ (7-shot) with 3-inch barrel (bottom left), a Ruger 77/357 rifle (instead of the 22LR semiautomatic pistol), and the 10/22 takedown, preferably suppressed.

Wow. I'd want a little longer barrel, but the Manuhrin is tough to beat. Still, I'd have to go with a 6-inch gun, either a Security-Six or that 7-shot S&W 686. Or a 5-shot Manuhrin if they make them.

I don't like underlugs, though. And carrying one around all day would be...irksome. But the Manuhrin has a superb action and its easy on the eyes. I also know how to disassemble and assemble the Ruger and the coil spring is very dependable, so I think I'll go with the Ruger.

But the Manuhrin would be close. So would the Korth.

It would be tough, but the Ruger on the right would be my
    chief choice.

But how about the .22LR? Would you go with a Ruger .22LR pistol? But if so, which one? The skinny 4.75-inch or the larger 7-inch model w/adjustable sights? Or do you like the 5-inch bull barrel?

For 357, IMO it boils down to just two: (or three for those who prefer the smaller framed 586/686)

    Smith and Wesson Model 27
    Colt Python

4" barrel is probably the best choice for barrel length, although 6" is nice too.

    (This S&W might have a 5" barrel)

My choices....one of the last revolvers I would want in a survival setting would be a Python. A 6” Security Six would fill the bill. A 5.5” Redhawk in 357 you can’t hurt would be be as good but is considerably heavier.

    For the 22 LR, Mk II - IV or S&W M63 or - K-22 (probably the 64)

M9 bayonet or the present knife the US armed forces are using with the Buck Lite folder in the pouch

The best 357 for that type of situation isn't a revolver. Love my 4" 686, but unless concealment was required, I would choose my 1892 over it any day.
