I finally setup my Lee APP for primer pocket swaging on 223/5.56. And WOW is all I can say. Works a treat with only some minimal adjustment to get it right. Loaded up 23 rounds of 223 (a couple were crimped) (what I had left in the sleeve of primers and also the space I had vacant in a 50 round box as I’d loaded the other rounds earlier) It’ll be interesting to see if the 5.56 cases also load up as easily. But it seems promising looking at the crimped cases. The crimp seems gone and no hogging of the primer pocket.

So time soon to set the App back up and run my 1400 223/5.56 otherwise prepped cases through. Then start prepping .308/7.62x51 cases to finally work up some loads there.

The APP makes reloading a joy again for crimped brass

I was happy/lucky when I found the collator feed would drop 300bo brass without readjustment from 223

What did you use for the swaging die?
I have an RCBS swaging die, is that going to work with the Lee App?

I got on the APP bandwagon and set it up to size 40s&w brass I had and my only issue is that you have to be careful to make sure you fully lower and raise the entire arm. If not it can cause the brass to not get lined up under the die or even shoot brass from the shell holder across the room. When it runs right it kicks ass.

Very nice I have your twin and was my total reloading bench for years until I started leather work. Now used for gun cleaning and leather, I made a new reloading bench for just reloading. Ammo storage is another thing the bench cannot hold 5 50 cal. ammo cans full of ammo so I had to come up with out of site storage. Glad I am not the only one with OCD to keep things neat.

I hand-counted some 9mm brass I obtained. Just over 9,000 rounds, give or take - my ability to count by 5's was starting to waver and my eyes were starting to cross by the end.

I had mentioned some time ago that the Armscore 224 bullets I got about a year ago were crap. Weights as well as OAL of the bullets had wide variation. I had already loaded about 600 rounds but decided to cull out the wider varations of weight. Xtreme 224 is pretty consistent by comparison at about .1gr variation spread. Armscore bullets had a variation spread of 54.8-55.6. I culled everything outside of 55.0-55.3. That took out 20% of them.

Depending on the brass manufacturer weights of cases can very quite a bit between manufacturers. So weighing cases to determine over all count is miss leading unless you know the weight of each manufacturer.

I have kept track of the case weights I use by manufacturer. So when fully loaded I add the case weight + projectile weight + powder weight minus the ammo can weight. So measuring a fully loaded round is very accurate. I also use this to calculate amount of rounds. Based on this I have been with in 1-2 rounds when calculating total rounds in an ammo can.

    Reloading and leathework

    deerassassin22,
Nice bench. My reloading is done in the garage and space is tight. Loaded up some .44 Mag (240 Nolser over 23gr 296) but didn't feel like swimming at the range yesterday to see how well they fly out of the trapper, Dan Wesson, and Ruger.

While this is not a leatherworking thread, I saw you were also doing some leatherwork. I play there too, but havnt done much lately. I did lay out a scabbard for the Trapper that I wanted to do since I started leather. Always wanted to do a fleece lined one (but, $100 at Tandy for the bark tanned shearling would be an expensive experiment-and all possibility of front/rear sight snag...) Did a nice holster and cartridge slide for the Dan Wesson. Trying to pattern out a Ruger LCR for a family member (but the firearm is in Maine so not sure how that will come out/fit...)

I currently hand-sew and your machine caught my attention. What is it? Do you like it? How thick can it sew. Was it a pain to learn to use? I've been considering one of the hand-press ones like the Tandy Boss or the Cowboy, but they are kind of pricey, so unlike casting bullets you cannot toss the machine back and cast another one. I would have to know more prior to purchase.

Don't know how you are able to use the same space for both as my reloading bench is also whatever I need it for bench and is an excellent shade of green from the used corn-cob media I spilled on it about 20 years ago. So, its just for reloading and small projects and my leatherwork is done in the kitchen since its a nice granite counter and is very clean. (Dying done on another bench w/cardboard)
