We were up that way this afternoon, and it struck me as odd that there would be so many commercial-type airframes coming south over the area, especially at such a low flight level and short intervals.

The 5th plane (not great lighting) sure looked like one of the Presidential fleet 757s.

Is that sort of traffic normal for the area? Or did Biden have to come back suddenly??

There has been a lot of unusual military air traffic lately. Tremendous amounts of refuelers (and therefore fighters) off east coast and other stuff elsewhere as well. Something is going on. Just not sure what.
The VP went to Columbus OH yesterday. Bird was pinging "AF2" as per usual. Not sure when she came back.

    Try flightradar24.com

You’ll get some ideas of what’s going on. I’d bet some of the .gov stuff may not show up, or have limited detail, but you can look.

Around the time of the last summit in ?scotland? A number of the tankers and command planes did show up when returning. Also some .gov 757’s

Frederick is on the approach for Dulles and, depending on the time of day, you can see quite a few airline aircraft flying by. You also have Camp David just up the road in Thurmont which routinely has Marine Airwing aircraft visiting. There are times when Camp David is full and H60's reposition to the Frederick ramp until they are recalled.

I'm between New Market and Frederick and see lots of commercial airliners headed south. Pretty sure they're on a long approach to Dulles.

I was thinking that at first (and would make sense for the first few planes), then I saw two possible fighters, followed shortly by the Blue Bird.

Ohio seems to fit the bill. Joe is in Kilmington this weekend.

Interesting that when bidet is in Delaware, there is often a tanker, edit: kc10, iirc, circling over northern Delaware and SW NJ (sometimes kc135 too…)

May be training from the NJ based tankers, but it seems that it’s very often overhead when cornpop in Delaware

Was on the map this morning for hours.

    Mt. Airy
I am in Mt Airy and have a LOT more air traffic overhead. Something changed a year or so ago. we never had this kind of activity before. occasionally we would get pres going to/from camp david, now we have low flying helicopters n other aircraft a LOT. like window-rattling low. I am not sure if state police, fed gov or something else

A lot of prop plane noise from low flying aircraft in the middle of the night, 2-3am, up and down I-270 in Germantown over the last 1+ month. I'm not of the conspiracy type, but there are vids on youtube showing plotting of gov use of common, unmarked, small aircraft performing strange circular or oval flight patterns, similar to a bird dog in action, over heavily populated areas.

    These are strange times.

coming down I-95 yesterday was a low flying helicopter with a camera on the Starboard side. Like it was taking pics of the cars on the Hwy.

Their are a number of different companies who are doing mapping for NOAA so that new aeronautical charts can be produced. It has been going on for some years and takes a long time and many airplanes. If you view their ADSB tracks, you will see them flying various patterns around the area.

Additionally, there is also military training going on again with planes and choppers flying strange patterns.

Don't loose any sleep over it. :D
