Couple decades ago I bought a .30-06 Columbian Mauser from Springfield Sporters. After haggling with them to get the muzzle cover that I paid for, I kinda forgot about it in the closet. I resurrected it and found the barreled receiver, bolt, trigger guard group and -- of course -- muzzle cover were of a FN Model 1950 Columbian Mauser in .30-06. The receiver appears to have been sand blasted and then phosphated. The stock and most everything else, however, were of a Spanish M43 or M44 8mm Mauser -- depends on whose description you read -- except the rear barrel band, which appears to homemade -- and the stock, although in nice condition, really doesn't fit very well. Obviously cobbled together. What can I do with this beast?

    First: yes, I've shot it.
Second: the barreled receiver sits in the stock OK but the M43/M44 handguard is totally wrong. It doesn't fit.
Compared to stocks on M43/M44's for sale, my stock is nice. Mine has straight grain, no knots, no gouges. But it does have the inletted rear side sling bar.
I'm going to take photos now.

Colombian. No U in Colombia the country.

I have 2 Colombian Mausers 550 serial numbers apart.
One has the original funky butt plate, the other one looks like a replacement.
both shoot "so so" but his a 12" plate at 100 yards

    Just Choot it Jake.
That does not look much different than many that I have seen. Many of them I believe were refurbed.
    I would not sporterize it.

I'll take a look at mine tonight.
