Anyone know a range around Baltimore County where you can practice on steel plates?

Does anyone know of a MD range where you can rapid fire and not be required to join some club or NRA? AGC in Marriotsville is most desirable, but they require club and NRA commitment. Cresap is nice, but they dont allow rapid firing. On target is hot as the gun you shoot, and Freestate is run by people who watch you on camera and will remove you without hesitation if you even look like a rapid firer.

Freestate restricts rapid fire? I used to be a member there and there were no restrictions on that?

Most if not all the clubs I belong to require NRA membership simply because they provide the framework for most of the shooting sports, including rules, range officer training, and many other things.

Not all AGC clubs require NRA membership. Monumental Rifle and Pistol Club and MD State Rifle and Pistol Association do require NRA membership in order to join.

I've fired an UZI, M16 and a Thompson st Free State with no issues. Can't get anymore rapid fire than that.

What is wrong with being a member of the NRA? The NRA is the standard for gun safety, gun training and standing up for our 2nd Amendment rights. The media and the left hate the NRA, because they fight for our gun rights. Without the NRA, our gun rights would have been legislated away years ago.

Boy, this post got off track quick, but a nice healthy discussion, so nothing local for 6 plates on a rack. I am aware that AGC is allowing steel with certification but it has to be in the impact area so makes training for GSSF matches difficult. Great for PPC and glad they have expanded the shooting experience at the range.

    Thanks everyone

Join a club at the AGC. It is a terrific deal.

Its a real shame to find gun owners in Maryland that don't want to join the NRA. The MD Legislature tries to take our gun rights away from us every year. The NRA is fighting to help us keep our gun rights in Maryland and in the United States. Have you watched the news this week? For the cost of a couple of boxes of ammunition, you can get involved by joining the NRA. All Maryland gun owners should all be members of the NRA and MSI at least. I am proud to be a member of two gun clubs that require NRA membership. I would not want to be a member of a gun club that did not support the NRA by requiring NRA membership.

There are a lot of benefits to being a member of a gun club. You meet a lot of terrific people, you can participate in club activities and have a blast. The dues for most of the clubs at the AGC are less than $50 per year. After July 1st, new members can buy a range badge for half price or $80. That badge would be good through the end of January 2017. You get to shoot everyday all day. The AGC has a 100 position 100 yard range, a 58 position 50 yard pistol range 10 position 200 yard range, 4 trap houses, an archery range and an indoor air rifle range.

Look at the AGC calendar to see what events the clubs are having. Several of them have club steel plate shoots. Whatever club you join, you will have a great time and meet a lot of terrific people.

Monocacy Pistol Club in Frederick shoots a lot of steel. But the club has a fixed limit in membership and there is always a waiting list by mid-year. Although everyone on the list usually gets in. You do have to be a member of the NRA. Once you are a member you can get in anytime and shoot steel as they have targets that stay on the ranges. Matches take up a lot of the weekends. Matches only cost members $1 and non-member $5. To shoot as a guest you have to have a member that you are there with.
