I wonder - I have his book and saw the few YouTube clips of his cabin build -

His night sky would be unmarred, incredible to see.

No need for electric lights on your fences -

I know he had supplies come in and guests stayed over.
    Pretty awesome.

That guy is legend. Makes you want to be in a cabin in Alaska for sure.

I hit bass pro today with my 3 and 4 year old. Got some trail food for a hike and lunch in the woods tomorrow. Just hearing the name Dick Proenneke makes me want to leave for the hike right now instead of waiting for the morning.

I just walked outside - it's clear as a bell. I'd get those kids ready and do a 45 minute hike NOW!
    It is SOOO nice out!
And then of course do the other hike tomorrow!!

AT LEAST go outside and lay on a tarp with blankets and
cuddle and look at the sky together.
    Can't get better than that.

Living the life he lived up in twin lakes...every day would have been like Christmas. At least in the sense that he was free to do whatever he wanted to do providing the chores were taken care of. 35 years alone up there beside babe the bush pilot, his brother and the boss hunter down the lake...no colds/illness, just living a real life...not the day to day rat race we all deal with. Food was fuel, sleep was rest not napping out of boredom or nothing to do, mail/supply drops were like Christmas and everything was a choice not your boss telling you or the gubment making you. No car insurance, no rent/mortgage/home owners insurance/property tax, rush hour. Peace and quiet as it should be...what a life!
