On a recent visit to the UK to visit my daughter and grandchildren, I was abruptly reminded of how a socialist society slowly restricts your personal rights. Granted, the UK does not have the 2nd Amendment, BUT it can change in a flash. Be aware!

I was clicking on a URL while reading the MD Shooters Maryland 2A string and I got blocked by the UK ISP. GUNS! OMG! I tried to insert the image, but no success. Basically, it said:
" The site was blocked because it matched the following categories: Weapons, Violence, Gore, and Hate"

Just thought I would send this as a warning of possible things to come.

running express vpn over here. Fun times. Buy for 15 months at the price of a year and protect 5 devices with the same code. Outside of 14 eyes and doesn't log.

I’ve been using PIA for years - amounts to about $3/mo and they don’t keep logs. I’ve been hearing good things about ExpressVPN though.

I've been using ExpressVPN about 2 years but it doesn't work on first gen firesticks so now I have a router with it loaded that covers all devices on my network.

    Same here.
I always used a VPN especially on international travel.

Apparently PIA was bought up by kape not too long ago, so now may essentially be part of israel's nsa. I dunno. It gets a bit too nerdy for me to follow in a super informed way.

I know someone who almost got questioned going through security at Heathrow because he had a Guns and Ammo magazine in his bag.

While I'm against blocking firearm content, I am all for blocking Al Gore content. Kudos to them for that.

Note that it isn’t always the larger ISP, but sometimes the venue (airport, restaurant, mall etc) that is hooking you up to their ISP over their local WiFi. That WiFi service may be piped through an appliance that is acting like a proxy, with filtering. The theory is that The place providing the WiFi doesn’t want to hear from customers that another customer is blaring pron from their iPad while sitting in the food court, that sort of thing.

Their lawyers may have recommended a filtered proxy so that no law suit can say you were using their network to look at Crazy Gun Stuff right before you embarked on a shooting spree. Plenty of corporate networks run their guest WiFi through just such a filter appliance, and they usually err on the side of being too heavy handed.

Some of those proxies/firewalls will also prevent you from making a VPN connection. It’s their network, their rules, as silly as they often are.

I DID get pulled out of gate waiting area @ Heathrow on a connecting flight. My wife was like WTF as I was asked to come behind their gate barrier and then walked downstairs with my carryon. It was searched (and I was again). The security officer questioning me had a head scarf on, she was obviously of middle eastern origin. Wasn’t trying to stereotype but I was thinking “well, this is pretty damned contradictory” to the expected.

Then from afar he mouthed "Gun magazine". We wondered why in the hell did he have one of those. Lol we were like "this ain't gonna be good". Glad it was they type you read and not one you stuff into a P229.

At least they give out Magnum ice cream bars on their cross Atlantic British Airway flights. Makes it all worthwhile. :)

I'm shopping for a new one myself. We had a fairly recent thread discussing them but I'm under contract until November with TunnelBear. The VPN itself is good, the company isn't.

Sort of like “do you want a good neurosurgeon with bad bedside manners, or a bad neurosurgeon with good bedside manners”?
