I’ve offered my jigs for use here before. I’m not going to lend them out. members I am familiar with are welcome to come to my home and do slide cuts, fit the slide, true the sear/hammer contacts, fit the thumb safety and stake the plunger tube. The rest of the fitting is done with stones that will run you $30 or so. I was in my happy place working on my 1911. I just need to Cerakote it, and I’ll be done (yeah, I bought all the sh!t for that, too).

Hey, this is my hobby and I love it. I did torture Clandestine just a bit.....

Sounds just like me...got sooo many projects in "stages" of builds.
Hobby here also, expensive at times, kits, jigs, etc. Friend makes
MP5 jigs, waiting on one, yes I have "other" his design works great.
But yeah, sounds about right, I don't lend sh*t out, it sometimes goes bye..bye..

“Any built 1911 would end up costing at least 900$, and probably wouldnt function as nice as a factory one.”

This is emphatically untrue. If all one is pursuing is function, an already built unit is the goal. Period. My experience has been if one knows what they are doing, a standard production 1911 can use some TLC to make it more of what it is with minimal cost. If you are building a frame up or using a slide and frame from a base gun, the cost will be more than $900 for good components. If any build does not function well with good components then it is an issue with the builder.

So this leaves out the 80% frames with Sarco “mil spec” parts. It leaves out a Foster (Caspian second) frame, a good unit costing less than most 80% frames, with Sarco components. In the end it will be a nice framed RIA. And actually, that is the drive behind many 80% home built guns.

With experience and knowing what to look for, one can cherry pick good new components here and there, skillfully and knowledgeably build the pistol and have an exquisite pistol. For a parts cost of $900 or more...most likely more. The leat costly in out of pocket costs for a good pistol is basically and Springer Mil Spec, rebarreled, good trigger, good lock work, and firing pin stop, This would be minimal with any other improved being labor based. It would cost $858 after selling take off parts.

Kool, I got you covered on Jigs, so you won't have to buy
    them "right away" ;)

LSC flats are the ones you wanna get, the Weldment kit also.
Parts Kits are crazy priced now vs. last year or so. I will say
this, they are fun to build, if you can weld some (tig) your good
to go, practice first on something else, basically if you can build
the 1911, you'll have no problems, basically only difference is
some welding, "roller delay system" But anyway just give me a
shout, jigs you can use, no problem. But you got to build one, then
that bug bit you bad. Yeah you can buy em, cheaper I'm sure but
then again same can be said about the 1911's

    Spot on...
it appears he is looking at reasons not to build one, his buddy..
wont function good as the factory one..not to bash Kimbers they
have issues also, look at the cost, same can be said with others.
Rest assured if I'm spending a few thousand on a "built one" from
a manufacturer it best function correctly. As noted it your built one
don't work "that's all you". To solve your problem bottom line "buy one"

Sound idea, they have shot up and some are OOS, used to be
some SD's floating around reasonable, just keep your eyes open.
Just like years ago Krink kits that had barrels, some milling, bending
etc. hard to find. Prices up to the sky.

Well, if I could spend less then $600 on all the parts, I would be more then willing to bring you beverages or food of your choice and attempt a few hour build in you home,

but you don't know me, and I am new to this forum...

I don't foresee my personal home built 1911 build being successful, I seethe failure being in the slide cuts.

that's vs a RIA or SA already built that I can mod as I please as time goes on, or keep stock and just maintain as needed.

just a thought if "you go into a build with doubt" how do things pan out?
if you take your time and think before you do anything, pretty much measure
    twice cut once.you'll be fine....

The first time I saw a two piece 2011 frame I was in shock. WTH were they think.

I guess they are all two piece frames now.

I want to build a 9mm double stack setup badly.
