M1 Carbines back in the day were often sported because of availability and price nothing new to see in that particular realm of sadistic treatment to otherwise practical firearms.
Ive also seen Garands sported to the nth degree that otherwise were very well done.
How some were engraved over the hardness of the reciever has always particularly been perplexing to me.
Not to mention modifications to the original gas system well beyond imagination.

I've never seen an M1 carbine with a Mannlicher. I don't hate it and it's not irreversible... but that optics mount. Please tell me it's not JB welded on.

I’m unsure what is holding it on. He’s a decent amateur gunsmith when it comes to fixing parts and finicky guns. But when he sees something different, he has to try it. A retired man with time on his hands and trying to spend his pension as quick as possible.

    Another one that screams “why”.

Probably because they hated the flat wood board and plastic mainspring housing that originally came with that carbine barrel kit :)

Not sure how you get the mag in and out of that contraption though, unless he's using extended mags. If that's non-permanent... maybe not so bad.

The shoulder stock kit is an easy swap but it's pretty flimsy.

Meanwhile, I expect a 1911 is going to become extremely unreliable (at best) if you try hanging a 16" barrel on it.

Monkeying with the barrel length on a 1911 raises engineering challenges which can't be ignored.

I mean, it's not a *true* bubba. How else are you going to shoot rifle calibers off a 1911 frame? FWIW "Raptor" is the European label for that one. It's call at Tangfolio "Thor" here in the US.

    .308 single-shot break-action on a 1911 frame.

Daayyumm, I looked that up and found they made it in 30-06, 300WM and 45-70. How many rounds would a 1911-style frame last with those stresses? My wrist is getting compression fractures from just thinking about shooting something like that, and the muzzle blast must be like staring into the sun.

I guess if you want a handgun that's ammo compatible with your Garand, maybe it's reasonable?

Now for some reason I just have to have one.

GB last week... early byf/43 (Mauser) in the d-block

If he hadn't gone with that hideous color combination (the blue really "pops" LOL), he'd have something there. The work was done well for shortening the barrel, adding the front sight to the slide bridge and shortening the grip and magazine. But apparently several people liked it since it sold for almost $800, which isn't that far off from an original one in nice shape.

Not necessarily. I don't think they were shortening frames back in the day, just a quick and dirty barrel snip. This pistol was from LugerMan up in PA and he does a lot of resto / custom work; not sure if he did this one or just was selling it. I have to admit I like the shortened frame, it helps the proportions of the gun compared to a genuine P-38K which looks unbalanced and "grip-heavy".

    The real deal:
