Please don't hate on me but the lower 91/30 in the pics stock and barrel was in really rough shape so I shortened and re crowned the barrel and reshaped the stock added a cheap long eye relief scope but if you look close I took the time to reposition the metal part of the sling loop to help keep the heritage of it. The hex numbers matching above it is not getting touched!

Hmmmm. That looks like a challenge.

    You ain't a kidd'in.

The trigger/pistol grip/trigger guard/receiver rear mounting screw area took a lot of calculating.

Bolt removal was challenging as well at first.

18 pound guns and they don't move at all when fired and they are loud. People up at Elk Neck actually stop shooting when I'm firing these things. Muzzle blast goes straight down the line of benches.

I love the blue Mosin. I know the guy who did it for his daughter (who enjoys shooting, has an AR15 of her own). You have to see it to appreciate it's pulchritude. The bands and nosecap are painted with silver glitter.

What ever it takes to get folks into the sport. I painted a Marlin 795 in royal blue metal flake to get my daughter in law into shooting. She said she would never own a gun until it showed up under the Christmas tree. It's amazing what a person's favorite color can do.

There is a guy on here somewhere with a lime green painted 91/30 all decked out with zombie and hazmat logos. Maybe it'll show up in this thread.

That blue and silver 91/30 stills takes first prize though.

This is really a "de-Bubbification" I guess, a Sporterized Johnson 1941 with aftermarket barrel, stocks, scope mount. These were dirt cheap back in the day and suffered all sorts of indignities. It took a little while to find parts but the end result was worth it. Had to settle for repro stocks as the originals are truly unobtainium but everything else was original. Subsequently converted into some High Powers :)

Cant find a picture of the full rifle but it broke my heart. Came across a BYF 43 Mauser with decent metal and finish (some browning somone tried to over clean but nothing horrible) and a pristine bore at Gettysburg. One mismatched part (safety lever), not import stampted. Walked away, ended up going back for it. Paid $4 bills total with a waffen stamped sling in decent (but not great) condition.

Bummer was that someone had taken a very waffen stamped laminate stock, sanded and cleaned it, carefully preserving the marking, removed the bolt takedown button and filled it with resin, crafted a brass buttplate, and fit it with a non bayo lug (Yugo?) stock cap. Barrel and front sight hood were intact. Very strange, and someone obviously took a lot of time quasi-demiliterizing it but not completely. Their objective was unclear to me.

Ended up swapping a stock off of another import stamped RC that I dumped to restore it to correct looking. It will never be a perfect gun but it looks good.

Refinished Type 53. How did I not realize how non-heterosexual that wallpaper looks in the pic? Don't judge me, I rent.

Now that I know more, I somewhat regret refinishing it. But, I like how it looks. The wood had some cool grain to it once I got all the crap off.

    Process: (stock)
CitriStripped the stock in a wallpaper tray
Note:This took a LOT of the dings out of the stock, I was surprised.
    Light sanding with fine sandpaper
    Minwax Pre-Stain treatment
    Stained with Minwax gunstock stain
Many, many coats of BLO with steel wool in between coats to take down the shine

There was some really heavy rust in some areas so I removed the rust and either left in the white (sling escutcheons) or Oxpho-Blued (barrel bands, part of magazine)

Even though it brings out a definite "Oh ... my ... GOD!" first reaction, the reason why it was done up that way is certainly more understandable than an adult butchering something for his own amusement. Also, when you get over the initial shock, it looks like the only changes to that one are cosmetic.

    Shaddydan,

I remember. That one is the third and final version with the receiver mounted scope. You weren't the only one to play with that rifle. I let a kid borrow it one day and I thought I'd never get it back. He was grinning from ear to ear. Glad you enjoyed it. It's olive green now.

Let me know next time you take it to Elk Neck. I'd like to see that.

Who can take a rifle ...
Pull off all the wood ...
    Put it into plastic,
Make it like it's from the hood?

    The Bubba man can!

    The Bubba man can!

    The Bubba man can,
'Cuz he changes all the parts,
And screws it up real good!

Who can chop a barrel ...
    Bolt on Walmart sights ...
    Pretend that it's tactical,
    And great for firefights?

    The Bubba man can!

    The Bubba man can!

    The Bubba man can,
'Cuz he doesn't give a damn,
    'Bout what that gun's withstood.

    The Bubba man fakes,
    Mags and muzzle brakes,
Tripods, stocks, and then he wishes,
He could shoot guys just like fishes,
Tryin' to hide the fact--he swishes!

Who can take Pop's old gun ...
Make it look real kewl ...
    Thinks that he's a genius,
But he's really just a fool?

    The Bubba man can!

    The Bubba man can!

    The Bubba man can,
'Cuz he'd rather do that than,
    Just keep it all old-school!

I'll have to convince my Guitar teacher to record with me using my Dobro a song and post this... LMAO this is too good.

Toolness, but its pretty close to the way it would have looked in service. Its not as bad as it could have been.
Nice touch with the Pineapple Dummy grenade for the Bubba thread (yes, I have one too, kids made me buy it, price to go to the gun show and bring teens).
