I’ve got a taste for a 5.56 AK. Been doing a bit of researching and it seems like the below parts should all work:

    https://rguns.net/shop/bulgarian-ak74-parts-kit-wood-stock/

    https://occamdefense.us/products/rear-sight-tower/rear-sight-tower-rst-sc/

    https://canis-design-group.myshopify.com/products/m4-magazine-adapter-for-ak

    http://ak-builder.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=30370

Bulgarian receiver, open to suggestions, have seen several but don’t know enough to pick one over another yet. Not looking to bend one, definitely buying one ready to go.

Anyone have any opinions or experience? I know about the Arsenal and M90 5.56 AK’s, but I’m looking to have a slightly more custom gun plus I’d rather spread out the expense. I’ve also recently moved out of state so no legal issues.

Thanks in advance for any input!

I have never done a 5.56 build, much less one using 5.45 parts. I would wager it's possible and there are certainly people who claim it works great.

I have little advice to give you other than I have owned a couple 5.56 AKs of different flavors and they can be finicky about feeding and which mags you use. There was never a 5.56 standard so each country came up with their own spec which complicated compatibility, plus the cartridge isn't tapered like the 5.45.

Between the 5.45 parts kit and your proposed mag adapter using AR mags, I can only assume it will require some tinkering. If the adaptor allows feed angle to be decreased slightly that might actually work well.

If you undertake it, please keep us posted.

Thanks, will do. I like the idea of having that built in red dot mount so I'm definitely leaning towards building one vs buying one.

Finally started to acquire some tools, got a solid deal on a press and rivet jig. The only problem now is I’m hearing PSA is going to release a 5.56 AK that takes AR mags...

Might that press be overkill for riveting AK trunnions?

Might be ... but it makes quick work of the ones you squeeze with a cantilever bar ('cuz they're up inside the front trunnion.) The 12T press is ... adequate.

Works nicely for pressing out/in bearing races when rebuilding mower deck spindles, too.

Besides, in your best Jeremy Clarkson voice you can proclaim "Moar Tonnage !!!"

Anybody got any more on this new ak
    Looks like it’s in 556
    Im liking it
It would be better if the mags weren’t 50-75$
