Thoughts on caliber? I’d like to get in the air rifle game for cheap plinking, varmint hunting, and sans NFA full auto fun at my vacation property. .25 seems like a good compromise. Hopefully pellets prices aren’t going the same direction as ammo.

.25 is a good caliber if you are looking at a PCP. If you are looking at a break barrel, then I would say look at a .22 as .25 break barrels are pretty slow. With a GAMO Whisper in .22, you can kill ground hogs at .25 yards with no problem using head shots.

Seems like PCP is the way to go... you just hook it up to your compressor then guns up?

The limitation would be the amount of air you can put into its tank the larger the caliber the fewer shots you get per tank full. I would suggest buying one of the small high pressure compressors from sportsman's guide if you're going to buy any PCP let alone a full auto one. I have a Hatsan HT44 QE in 22 cal. I get about 40 shots before i need to refill. Big bores only get a few. The Airforce Texan 50 cal only gets 3.

do md magazine laws apply to mags for airguns? looks like they are between 16 and 21 shots for the blitz.

EDIT: looks like it does not since it says 'firearm'
A person may not manufacture, sell, offer for sale, purchase, receive, or
transfer a detachable magazine that has a capacity of more than 10 rounds of
    ammunition for a firearm.

No, air guns are not firearms in that respect. There are some criminal laws that consider a pellet gun a firearm when used in a criminal activity.

Not much good for hunting but definitely fun to shoot
