I am considering the purchase of an air rifle to help me with offhand shooting. I was told that training with an air rifle will significantly help me get more proficient.
Is there anyone here that may have one they would sell or trade for? Also, any recommendations on an affordable rifle to serve that purpose.
    Thanks!

It really depends what kind of shooting you want to train for. There are Olympic air rifles that are used for CMP events but they don't look anything like a Garand. Their is one that looks similar to an AR15. I believe it goes for about $600 but I don't know much more about it.

*****What's your price range? Do you prefer spring piston, pump action, CO2, etc? Iron sights? Optics? There's lots of options but it really comes down to your budget.

I need to research those questions. I would rather not have to pump them so I imagine a co2 would be best. Haven’t thought about a budget as I have no idea what they run. Definitely iron sights as that is what my rifle has that I am practicing for.

Can't read minds over the internet , so I'll kick around a few general possibilities :

Are you looking to practice basic off hand skills and basic marksmanship ? Then virtually anything that doesn't massively suck will get you started on stance , sight alignment , and trigger control . Even a CO 2

Got the basics down , and want to woodshed to being medium- good ? Is shrinking you 10 M group size more important than rapid fire knocking over soda cans ? Mid priced break barell .

Thanks. Probably just reinforce basic off hand skills etc.. Any recommendations?

A break barrel spring gun or a single pump pneumatic will do fine for practicing the basics. CO2 is just a hassle.

The CMP sells refurbished single pump pneumatic. Check them out.

I can assure you that disciplined and “intense” practice with an air rifle WILL improve any position you truly devote time to. I didn’t shoot any highpower all winter but practiced 2x daily, 20 shots @ session, for a total of 40 shots a day. First Saturday of this month my first two shots offhand at 200 yards were “X’s” and I let everyone noticing it unsettle me (I’m prone to that sh*t; was clean on a 60-target sporting clays course today until I woofed one on each Stn 9 and 10 after the high school team shooters on my squad started making good natured jokes about “clay-seeking pellets,” etc. I can be my own worst enemy :-(
Win 64 psp out of an otherwise stock barrel etc 16” Colt post-ban configured HBAR w Burris 4-plex. Edit - WITH a Geiselle NM trigger!

It has not “bled” into any of my other positions but, when I shoot offhand I literally “see myself” in my basement, simply shooting my air rifle.

It is a Daisy 753S, is one hole capable all day long (I use nothing but match grade pellets in the 8-9 gr weight range) and can be had via Amazon for $227 ...

Break barrel springers require a dramatically different technique vs other air guns and firearms. You can gain sighting and trigger finger practice with one, but outside of that I would recommend any other action because most springers require an open offhand grip which many people find difficult to learn. It took me a week or so of practice, but it took my daughter a month to master.

Now that I have it down, I can consistently hit a 2" target from 45 yards from kneeling or sitting position with my Crosman Phantom.

    I have a small youth, 22. It's a Geco model 1919.
It's small and my boys are able to shoulder it. For them I use Aguila Super Colibri.
