Looking to get into the game for the first time. I have a cheap Rossi 22 for a host and will not be going any bigger in caliber.

I've been reading and searching the threads but now reaching to those that know for advice on brand/style and means of purchasing such as local or online?

Silencershop kiosk is quick and easy to fill out forms. You can do prints on one too. United Gunshop in Rockville has one. Hardest part is the wait. Also know you’d be buying sight unseen.

I got a dead air mask. Seems to be the most recommended .22lr option. I have no complaints but little point of reference for how a .22 suppressor should be, never used another.

When I got my first one for .22 I neglected to take into consideration being able to disassemble it for cleaning. .22's are dirty. Others may say that isn't important, but my next one won't be sealed.
    YMMV.

Silencerco Sparrow is a great .22 can.

Form 1 is the way to go, especially with a dedicated .22 can. You'd probably be approved within 30 days and have less than $400 in the stamp and can.

You think you won't be going any further with suppressors. They tend to multiply. Get a user serviceable 9mm can. Very versatile. Works very well on .22 and will cover 9mm, subsonic .300 BLK.

As usual the MDS guys have the answers.

Teratos, so the larger required bore for the 9mm doesn't effect the suppressed sound when using on a 22lr?

Not noticeably. I use .30 cans on some of my .223/5.56 guns.

It makes up for the larger bore diameter in volume. It suppresses .22 very well. You just have to be diligent about cleaning. The downside of a 9mm suppressor is the increase in size/weight.

As outrider said, I use .30 cal cans on my 5.56 without any problem at all.

A dedicated .22 can is advisable though. That or any can that can be disassembled for cleaning. I would not recommend a sealed can for .22 unless you dropped it into a ultrasonic cleaner after each range trip. Like Teratos said, .22 is filthy stuff and requires cleaning often.

How about some specific suggestions for a user serviceable can that will be used on a AR 9mm pistol and AR 300BO pistol? I have done a lot of research but value MDS user reports more than stuff from people I don't know.

Is there a problem getting different thread adapters for the same can?

I have an Octane 9 I use in that role. No problems with adapters at all. I use it on 9mm and .22. It will work on suppressed 300 BLK, but I have a .30 rifle can I use for it. I clean the baffles with my wet tumbler with SS pins. I also have a .22 can. TAC-65 from a group buy here that I had recored with SS baffles. I use it on suppressed .22 as well. I see no real difference in loudness. The 9mm can gives the report a lower tone than the .22 because of the volume.

What are we talking on the cleaning, every 500 rounds or so?

Especially for rimfire. If you have nice, clean 9mm or .300 BLK you’ll see a lot less crud. I’m pretty anal about cleaning my suppressors because if you let them go too long you may have to work to get the baffle stack out.
