    What negative consequences might this action bring about?

    I would not unless I got confirmation from the manufacturer that it's ok to do so. Actually, I think I will ask and see what they say. As has been pointed out, some metals will warp if you suddenly cool them with water.

    I’m using the manta suppressor cover. It’s made of silicone and it works.

    I have not been able to melt it yet. Even with burst fire.
