Well today I installed a new trigger into my AR15. It is replacing a mil spec trigger. The new trigger is a Rise Armament Rave 140. Here is my question. When the trigger is NOT cocked there is creep in it. About 1/8 inch. When the trigger IS cocked there is no creep. Tested at 3.5lbs. of pull. Feels very crisp and nice. Is it normal for creep when NOT cocked???? This is my first upgraded trigger in an AR. I think I'm going to call customer support tomorrow to see what they say. I wouldn't have thought this was normal but what do I know.

Normal. It's a single-stage trigger. Remove the upper from the lower. Now press the hammer down to set the sear onto the hammer. Put your hand/thumb up by the bolt catch to keep the hammer from dropping free onto your lower(it'll instead impact your hand) and then press the trigger back as you watch how the trigger's sear disengages from the hammer to allow it to fall forward. Keep the trigger to the rear and push the hammer back down to reset it. You'll see the hammer click and get caught by the disconnector. Now as you release the trigger, you'll see the hammer slip off of the disconnector and land back on the trigger's sear surface. You'll also notice that the trigger moves forward about that 1/8 inch you're noticing when the hammer is not cocked back. It's just the normal operation of a single stage trigger. That play back and forth is the travel of the trigger when it's not being stopped by the hammer grabbing it.

I have installed Rise 140's in most of my lowers now that I don't shoot CMP stuff anymore. They are damn fine triggers for the money and the straight triggers make for a fast proposition. :party29:

I mainly run Geissele or just quality mil spec triggers but I’ve got a RAVE 140 in a range toy and I got to say, it’s a really nice trigger for the price. Zero issues over a few K rounds.

    Man I miss shooting...

And yes, trigger take up when the hammer is down is normal.

The MBT’s are probably the best bang for the buck in an AR trigger
