I recently obtained a Ruger 9mm PC Charger and added a muzzle break and a brace. That brought it to an overall length of 27" with the brace extended. If Bidumb's ATF declares a pistol with a brace to be an SBR, then in order to comply with MD regs, the overall length must be a minimum of 29.5". To insure compliance, I added three picatinny risers to the picatinny rail on the "butt" of the Charger and then re-attached the brace and, voila -- it's 30" long. As in all things, where's there's a will, there's a way.

Everyone is entitled to handle these "silly" situations as they deem appropriate, but I have too much to lose in being cited for an infraction of established law.

If what you suggest happens, you still wouldn't be in compliance, would you? You would be in possession of an SBR without a stamp, unless they include a grace period for people to obtain them.

Using that logic when they ban your magazine fed semi-automatics you're going to have to turn them all in. You might as well do it now

It's best to get an early start on turning in your weapons. Stephen Halbrook, in his book Gun Control in the Third Reich, described the hilarity of the police when people who were ordered to turn in their guns were arrested in the streets on the way to turn them in.

By the way, it was not only firearms that were sanctioned; edged weapons, and even sharpened shovels, were banned, and if you were unlucky enough to be found in possession you were subject to arrest and imprisonment. If you were unlucky enough t be arrested by the Secret State Police (Gestapo), your arrest and subsequent fate might not even be recorded; you'd just disappear.

The handy registration lists were the primary source of information regarding whom to search. Lists of politically undesirable individuals were also kept. Subversive literature was also vigorously sought out and destroyed, and the social undesirables who possessed such things were arrested and imprisoned.

Now that so many socially problematic individuals have outed themselves in various online venues, it goes without saying that they will be carefully scrutinised, detained and questioned, and their homes searched for weapons and items which demonstrate the likelihood of their being enemies of the state.

Anyone who still believes that "it can't happen here" are welcome to their opinions, but recent history adequately demonstrates that it can, and quite possibly will.

First they have to get into the house. After the first few houses, they won't be so anxious to keep doing it.

Give an inch, they take a mile. Time to stop giving inches. You can't be a law abiding citizen on Sunday night, go to bed and do nothing different, and wake up the next day magically a criminal because of some new "law" or regulation for something you possess. The U.S. Constitution is the U.S. Constitution.

This approach tends to work better in communities of the like-minded.

Here in the PRM, there seems to be a lot more attention paid to the word of law. That's why it worked in Germany - everything was done according to the law, and the Germans are a law-abiding group, as a whole. Those who were unlikely to comply were already in the streets, raising Cain.

As it happened, the rioting in the streets between Communists ans Fascists, and both groups against the police, drove the lawmakers to push for more control. Even as they realised the risks inherent in weapons registration, they took pains to see to it that the information was carefully protected, and only available to the government, to ensure against excess.

Then the National Socialist Workers Party got into office. The rest is, as they say, history.

    At the original question :

Too many speculation on top of speculation to make any meaningful guesses .

The underlying truth is that ATF created the various Pistol Brace Policies with a typewriter , and can be one again changed with another typewriter in turn .

The exact form , and any downstream state level impacts are strictly WAG .

Lots of angry responses here that are calling out OP.

While I think the whole NFA/SBR/braced pistol legal situation is ridiculous and any ban will likely be caught up in court cases for years, each person has the right to determine how much legal exposure they want to be in.

Personally I'd just save up for a new barrel and a real stock and go ahead and put in the paperwork for the SBR unless you travel a lot with it. MD and ATF already know you own it through the 77r and the 4473 if there's a crackdown.

The ATF doesn’t have the ability to make laws.
    So they can piss off.
Stop enabling tyrants. Shall not comply.
