Much above I did not know, thank Ye ...

No problem. DC giving Arlington and Alexandria back to VA set the precedence that basically says DC would have to give the rest of the city back to MD BEFORE it could see any possibility of becoming a state on its own. By doing what they did, the federal government formally recognized that the federal enclave that is DC is borrowed land, originally from VA and MD, and now just MD. That sets off the tricky situation where the constitution says no state can be admitted to the Union if it is part of another state in the Union. That puts the nail in the coffin right there. We'd be even more buried up to our eyeballs in Dem shenanigans in this state if they tried to go this route, but it would at least prevent them from getting another permanent seat in the Senate.

Manchin (and Sinema in AZ) have come out saying they will not vote to eliminate the filibuster. This will now put all of the crazy legislation (gun control, PR/DC statehood) out of reach.
So likely Manchin can now be "released" to vote for whatever (he thinks) his constituents want.
In the mean time we'd need to find a candidate to beat him in 2024. I don't think our current House members have enough gravitas to beat him right now unfortunately.

You'll likely see JB McKuskey or Charles Capito run at some point in the not-too-distant future. Honestly, if you guys could convince Aaron Sporck (one of Shelly's long-time staffers) to run, he'd be a great candidate. Dude is super smart, 100% conservative, and has the experience behind the scenes to know how things work from the get-go. All three of those names carry weight in the Charleston-Huntington and Morgantown metro areas.
