making a lot of new criminals. The vague nature of 'could' and work the youth hunting angle... Like DNR really wants more people out there taking game animals and the whole access to firearms thing by otherwise proven competent individuals would be restricted to the point of not being practical.
Here's what I wrote/submitted if anyone wants to give advice for the oral portion, based on what I wrote.

IIRC any testimony submitted or recorded becomes part of the public record of the committee proceedings. No point trying to obfuscate on MDS unless you're trying to avoid linking your MDS screen name with your true name.

Physically showing up? Yes, I can see that having an effect.
Letter writing? Especially in the electronic age? I'm dubious.

    I'm game to try though.

Please do. Your other choice is to do nothing. Myself? I'm not doing nothing.

IIRC, the next good one is the "ghost" gun bill, whatever those are. Lots of good Intel at marylandshallissue.org.

You can call and email too, especially the committee chairs and vice chairs. I have them as contacts in my phone.. in theory, they represent all marylanders, so remind them of that if you're not in their district when you call.

And thanks for the shout out Art3!

If you haven't seen the results of actually fighting for your rights, it's because you weren't there, and are not paying attention.

I particularly recall when Del. Curt Anderson pulled the mag limit bill under withering testimony of those who actually showed up. It was an awesome sight.

Keep naysaying while others carry your water. I'll fight for your rights even if you won't, because that's how I preserve my own rights.

You aren't preserving a damned thing. The mag limit bill eventually passed and is now law. Please give me one example of a bill that was never passed, not one that was delayed. Again, your letter writing, testifying and rallying is doing nothing...we've been through all of thins before. if it doesn't pass this year it will next. If it gets vetoed the veto gets overridden.

keep bashing your head against that brick wall...I will prep for when the actual fighting against the gun grabbers starts..then we will find out who "carries the water" and who complies because they want to be "law abiding"

The mag bill he's referring to was for POSSESSION. It has not passed yet.

Removal of the HBAR exemption has not passed yet.

Well it's obvious that what AOB said was true, you weren't there or paying attention. Del Anderson's bill has not passed since he withdrew it and not only that no form of it has been introduced since then.

There is a third choice, frequently exercised on here: Piss on the efforts of those who are trying to do something.

Norton smacked his pee pee with a sledgehammer a few weeks ago and yet he is still the biggest shitposter on the board.

He's so aggressively doom and gloom about everything. Maybe it makes him feel better about himself, but I sure doesn't seem to help anyone else.:sad20:

You know, I'm starting to get the impression that they don't want to hear from gun owners. It's like they don't care about our feelings.

Or what would actually work. Or the Constitution.

You got that right. The tight window was a slap in the face too. My 2 cents has been submitted. Hopefully this one gets left in drawer then makes its way to the circular file.

I'm guessing this one is a priority gun bill for MGA. The committee chairs set their agendas, and they are all well aware that what often kills bills is the Sine Die clock. So stuff they really want to pass, at least in some form, gets heard early. And, IIRC, if it passes both chambers early enough, a veto override can occur in the same session if the Governor chooses to veto it. Otherwise it needs to wait for the next session, or it dies entirely if it's pending when a new General Assembly gets seated after an election.

My kids are learning a lot about civics from me because of my trying to work the system to sustain our rights. They're learning some new vocabulary, too.

That is cool that you are teaching the kids. your points are well taken. Also to your point, when a bill has a companion bill then that tells me that both judiciaries want to see something happen and they are doing their best to get the horse out of the gate asap.

I know that I have learned some things over the past couple of years. Especially last year when I got to observe and participate in real time. A few things that I think everyone should do at least once...

    1. Pick some bills that you are passionate about and read in their entirety. Pick some favorable and some unfavorable.

    2. Pick the bill apart and put together testimony for the bills.

    3. Show up, submit your testimony and also, provide verbal testimony.

It's one thing to speak in favor of a bill. It is entirely different when you speak unfavorably of a bill in front of a couple of dozen supposedly important people. Not to mention the pack of people behind you that oppose your views too. It takes guts and practice to do it smoothly. I am still working on the smooth part. I do feel far more comfortable now compared to the first day that I showed up.

It changed my perspective. My theory was confirmed... Hardly anyone understands what they are legislating. Not just guns but EVERYTHING. Our legislators are not on a high pedestal plugged into a power source of great knowledge and wisdom. If more people understood this then how would they vote? Would they vote for the same people year after year after year? I know that some would. I think it would be an eye opener for a lot of people. The book that I got when I joined GOA is a great read. "What makes you think we read the bills" by Bill Richardson.

The bill is most definitely NOT law. There is your "one example." There are more. As the more cereberally inclined say, it is left to the gun-control student to discover.

Muleskinner is our version of the 600 lb. guy who is in a scooter because he's too chubby to walk criticizing "his" team for not winning the game....

He can't even wipe his own ass, but knows what you need to do.
