It is the 45 Texan. I would cast my own bullets but then I'd have to buy all the accessories to go with casting. Lead isn't cheap either. I currently use the 350 grain for hunting deer. I read an article where a guy was using the 250 grain hollow points to good effect. He was killing deer, pigs, and other stuff well. I'd probably shoot the 250s but I don't think the gun would register the 400 ft lb minimum required by the state as a minimum. So until I determine otherwise, I'll stick with the 350 grain. They have a good meplat and hit quite hard. Supposed to generate 600 ft lb with the first shot. Pretty good!

Well I figured I would mention it in case you already cast your own bullets. 600 foot pounds from an air rifle, Lewis and Clark would have loved it.

I have head shot a doe and a pig with this rifle and that was before I added the new higher pressure tank and the TX2 valve. I think even shooting at 3k psi the new TX2 valve would generate close to 500 ft lbs. The pig I shot was in the 250 lb range and it drove him into the ground. Hit in the top of the noggin and the bullet passed through and buried deep in the ground. Kind of cool. The doe also dropped where she stood. I don't know why MD requires so much muzzle energy but..... I am just starting to play with the new tank and valve. Should be fun.

I have JSB pellets that weigh around 230 grain, I think. They shoot okay but I noticed the skirts were bad on many of them. I weeded them out and accuracy is pretty good. However, to hunt in MD you have to generate 400 ft lb. To get there we the original gun I shot standard 350 grain bullets. Pretty similar to that which you'd shoot out of a muzzle loader. The front of the bullet is flat around 35 caliber. I'd shoot hardcast, but can't with this gun. At 50 yards I am shooting 1.5 inches with that 350 grain bullet. With the new tank and valve, I might work the numbers with the 250 grain bullet and see if it generates 400 ft lb. Forgot to mention I did shoot a good long beard in WV a couple years back. Center mass and it kind of made it down hill around 50 yards. Was able to track pretty easily because it would fall and leave patches of feathers. I shot it with a 145 grain round ball. Hoping to use the same rifle this summer for crop damage. Don't want the neighborhood all up in arms with gun shots. This is pretty quiet.

Chris Turek has done a lot of good for the airgun community. BUT he’s also done some pretty jack-assery stuff to.

Leigh high now sells copper rounds ready to go, but dang are they expensive came out last year.

My favorite Turek tail is his “world record shooting across a pond” where he walks a pellet, probably 40 plus shots, then moves target, then finally ten shots later hits the trash can lid. Just nicking edge. Meanwhile years before Carl puts 5 on target over 1k yards. Nobody has filmed repeated long distance hits like Carl, verybigrifle on YouTube. End rant

    Here’s 1 inch group 554 yards with Airforce rifle in 45. https://youtu.be/Y7yOcQbBgJg

Oh, I did mean to mention that I emailed JSB because of the poor quality control of their pellets. Got a response from the president of the company explaining that they contracted those pellets from another vendor. If you buy those pellets today they may be higher quality. He sounded somewhat upset about it. JSB usually has very good QC.

I wanted to let everyone know, don’t buy your YH from Walmart, there 3rd party growthrill can’t be reached by phone. The compressors they ship aren’t marked YH but do appear to have all the parts.

I bought mine from a tool distributor on eBay. Which, when I had a question/issue a few months later, eBay informed me that they are no longer allowed to sell on EBay. Luckily, I was able to fix the issue and there are lots of info/tutorials available.

There are plenty of parts available on Ebay and through Alibaba. If you don't let it overheat, it will probably last a long time. The best inexpensive upgrade is a better water pump (Home Depot has them).
