Recently tried to buy some ammo from Ammo To Go. I completed the sale and the the next day I received this email:

    Dear ****
Thank you for your order with Ammo To Go! You may have noticed during checkout that we asked for your date of birth and some form of I.D.
We ask for this because, much like alcohol or cigarettes, your state or municipality requires us to verify your age using a valid government-issued I.D.
There are a few different ways to get your I.D. to us:

Email it to us - Take a picture and email it to us at support@ammunitiontogo.com
Fax it to us - We accept faxes at 979-277-9959
Text it to us - Snap a picture of your license with your phone and text it to 979-277-9676

I responded that there is no such law in Maryland and that there were enough 2A restrictions without inventing new ones. I will not comply. The next day I get this email:

    Hi ****,
Thanks for your new order and for your reply. We know some of these requirements can be aggravating. Maryland just requires us to confirm that our customers are age 21 or over when we ship there. You are correct, it is not an ID requirement, it's just that the Driver's License or State-Issued ID carries your birthdate, to confirm age 21 or over.
As an alternative to sending a document, if you'd like to give us a call, we can enter your birthdate in our system. We cannot guarantee that it will be able to confirm your age over 21, but if it does, you would not need to send a document. Please let me know if you'd prefer to give that a try, or if you'd rather have us cancel your order.

So they admitted that they knew it wasn't required yet they still wanted make it more difficult to buy ammo. Cancelled that order.

I had this IN Maryland, FTF in a brick & mortar Retail store recently!
I don't know whats going on behind the scenes, but I get the feeling something is.
THEN, after taking my money, making change & writing a receipt I was informed they might not be able to get it & that "Reloading supplies are non-refundable".
Now I find they can't fill the order, & I can't get a refund, just a "store credit".
Names withheld to protect the whatever. I told them to find the damn product I paid for then.

I went through the same thing with ATG last year. I had bought a lot from them over a few years. I told them no and went elsewhere. I'm glad you called them out and got the additional information.

Edit: Heh. Forgot I'd already posted pretty much this :o -

Please let the name of this seller be known. People like that don't deserve our patronage.

Sooo for those of us who aren't cool kids:

How does one contact ammo John to arrange a purchase? Agree on a price and quantity? Do I have to learn the secret handshake or something?

I regularly purchase tobacco online. There is a similar requirement to confirm age. None of these online retailers have ever asked for ID. I believe they can look at online info ( such as the fact that you've had a credit card for 21 years) to confirm age. Not sure why ammo is any different. See the following link. Then Maryland section regarding confirming age is one sentence.

I recently bought some Air Soft ammo from Walmart on a super clearance deal and went the "self scan" route. Had to get the "warlord of the scanners" to verify that I was over 18. He actually had me dig out my license and stared at it like he was trying to memorize my address or something. For crying out loud, even Stevie Wonder can look at me and tell that I am over 18. I think that I have had a full beard for longer than the "warlord" has been alive.

If you're closer to Frederick than Pikesville, I also carry the most popular calibers. Other items are also available but I stock 9/223/556..
