I got a carcano cavalry carbine from Classic a couple weeks ago and am very happy with it.

I’m looking at getting one, I ordered a 91ts carcano from palmetto and it cleaned up really nice and shoots very well. I have a thread about getting it cleaned up and my review on it with pictures of brass as well.

Ok here is the promised update on the CZ50s from OWS. On face, I’m impressed. Matching serials. Immaculate barrel. Covered in gun oil so it’ll need a cleaning but finish, grips, internals looks really good. Zero external or internal putting or rust. Small rust spot on the follower in the mag. I haven’t had a chance to fully take it apart yet to clean it so any hidden issue will be for future disclosure. Also haven’t shot it yet but overall looks good. I think these are the real deal guys. Now one caveat I did pay for the Grade 1 Select. Overall I’m very happy with the purchase.

Mine is en route. Also grade 1. Hopefully also in great shape

Mine just came. Both appear to be in good shape. Functionality seems fine. One of them has a little spot that might be light pitting on the left slab of the slide. It might clean up. Otherwise it is in good shape with some wear. The second one however is almost perfect. It has some gunk caked in the crevices that should come right off but is pretty much a high polish blue. The rounded top of the slide on this one is much better finished than the first one. The first one shows some machining, it basically wasn't polished as nicely. It almost makes me wonder if the nicer one was polished and reblued? Is that something that they did? The one with the better blue also as i understand it was upgraded with vz70 parts like the more rounded hammer with the hole and the flat knurled take down button as opposed to the rounded one. The nicer one also does not have the proof mark and year stamped on the left rear of the slide. The other one has the older parts and is dated 58 on the rear of the slide and has one small chip in the grip above the safety. I'll get some pictures up later.

The OWS CZ50s are FILTHY inside. I’m in the process of completely disassembling mine to give it a thorough cleaning. It’s cleaning up very nicely though. If you get one, I’d recommend a complete strip and clean.

They are on the bottom of the front of the frame. Kind of large and deep but at least out of the way.

Another plus for these then. My CZ50 from Classic had a gigantic billboard on the side of the slide.

It's getting harder and harder not to buy one.

Just noticed that one of mine is not working in double action. The trigger is not releasing all the way to allow for the longer pull. single action seems fine. Any ideas? maybe when i take the grips off to clean i can compare to the working one and figure out the issue. Hopefully something minor.

Edit. I think i figured it out. the trigger is not clearing the trigger guard to reset fully. There is a dent in the bottom of the trigger guard. Crap. this one might be a return.

Here are the pictures. You can see that one has a much better finish than the other. I thought that the one with machining marks and lesser quality bluing was typical of these. You can also see where the trigger contacts the trigger guard. The other one has clearance when cocked.

I've emailed them about returning the bent one for an exchange. hopefully that will go smoothly. I have bad luck ordering pistols in pairs. I had a problem with a pair of tokarevs where one was really nice and the other one was worn out and the hammer would drop when you dropped the slide. At least this time they are not too far away and I can just drive there and exchange it if they will let me. Shipping them back is always such a pain.

Yup, I just got mine and I've already emailed them about return or exchange. Trigger guard is dented and it is dragging. On top of that, it isn't what I would consider a 90% + select. I wouldn't have sent it back just because I judge it to be more like 80% and they say 90% plus, but the dented trigger guard causing the trigger to drag just isn't plain safe. I've bought many dozens of sight unseen surplus C&Rs over the years and this will be the first one to be returned. Guess it had to happen sometime.
