If you've been waiting for big sales on Cap& Ball revolvers, check out EMF . Just ordered an adjustable sight blue steel M1858 ( Pietta) for $250 , plus similar discount on spare cylinder .

Some great deals there. I've been looking for a 1858 Remington Bison 12incn barrel, steel frame. 44cal. for this years muzzloader deer season. Traditions. Pietta. Uberti. I've found them in the brass frame. I know traditions Uberti makes this model but as yet to find one. BACK ORDER is all i have seen.

You would need to check. My Uberti 1858 cylinder will meet the requirement using 36gns of Tripple 7. My Pietta cylinder is smaller and I can't get enough it in. Now this is with a 200gn bullet and not a round ball so you may be able to do it with a round ball.

40 grains of FFFG, and a round ball will fit into the cylinder of a 1858 Remington copy. It fits but just barely.

I’ve take one doe with it a few years ago. About a 10 yard shot, from my treestand. Put it right behind the shoulder, and she ran about 60 yards. I tracked her and had to shoot her again, to put her down.

I also have taken a wild hog using that same load. I did that in 2001, in South Carolina. Shot was also about 10 yards, it was a head shot, and he went down right there.

Yeah, even with my 15% decrease for T7 my 190 conical's are tight in my ROA. But now that i checked they say the 1858 will hold 40. hmm,Thank's guys .

I also have cartridge conversions for my BP revolvers. That way, if I don't want to lug all the BP stuff to the range, I just grab some cartridges and throw in a conversion cylinder. I worked up loads somewhere around 6gns of Bullseye and a 200gn bullet and they shoot to same POI as the BP balls do.

Remingtons are lots of fun and don't break like my Colt's do. I must have to replace a hand spring on my Colt's every couple of years and I have yet to break one on the Remingtons and they get shot harder than the Colt's.

Mine showed up today. Nice piece. Seems well built and beautiful bluing, but jeez it was slathered in oil. Almost as bad as my RIA M5 shotgun was. I guess a complete disassembly and good cleaning is in order.

Just got my new 1858 yesterday as well. EMF was pleasant to deal with and I'd do business with them again.

I've had the brass-framed model for about 20 years or so and the quality seems to have improved on the new ones. The old one had beautiful bluing, tight lockup, and tight cylinder gap but was a little rough around the edges and the action was really heavy and gritty. This new one is spot on all around - still beautiful bluing, tight lockup and tight cylinder gap but the action is just slick as snot in comparison like it's been worked over by a smith.

There's a guy over on THR who's running an 1858 Pietta 8" with 35gr Triple 7 3Fg and a 200gr Lee conicals with recorded chrono results averaging 1135 fps.

Update: Newer Pietta 1858 has a faster rate of twist. Haven't measured precisely yet but you can see how many turns the rifling makes: my late 90's model has about 1:30 twist (1/3 turn), this new one somewhere under 1:20 (almost 1/2 turn). There are also tiny notches cut into the loading plunger to clear an ogive - looks like may have set these new models up for conicals from the factory. Front sight is dovetail mounted - thinking maybe they're just putting the "target" barrels on all of them now. Cylinders are interchangeable between the two so specs are close enough there, newer one better finished and a little smoother.
