I use whatever I have on hand. Even vegetable oil.
Any oil will clean stones. Just do it properly

Kerosene with a drop of oil will work. Kroil PB or nearly anything that will float the swarf to the top of the stone will do it as well.

I've used straight Zippo fluid on fine work.
