What is the best way to humanely kill a fish? Bop in the head? Throw it in a cooler with ice? Chop head off with cleaver? I haven’t been fishing since I was a kid but I want to get back into it, so I’ll admit to be being an idiot on fishing related matters.

I hope to get my license and a rod/reel this weekend and cast a line sometime soon.

    What type of fish?

308 will kill fish for sure. Just to be safe, I whip out my 50 bmg pistol though.

Some of the other methods mentioned in this thread work, but are not guaranteed like 308.

I have seen ruskies use grenades, but you can too easily go over your limit and get a fine.

So you don’t recommend 4.20x69mm for fish?

Most fish don't last long in a cooler full of ice. Larger fish and more rambunctious fish can be subdued with a firm tap to the top of the head, just above and behind the eyes. I have an old Orioles souvenir bat that works well for this and a couple other things.

Did you get that bat from memorial stadium? My brother and I got one a long time ago. I don't think they would give fans in the crowd bats in 2020. Liability and all.

Put them in my pristine clean tank with $100 filter and all new gravel for each fish and a vigorously cleaned and perfect pH balance water supply. The expensive fish die within a day or so and the nasty ass goldfish from the county fair last year is still alive and kicking getting bigger daily.

Ha, I resemble that remark. Finally found someone to take the damn goldfish.
