I decided to upgrade my 10/22 a bit for muskrat duty. Purchased a TacSol SBX and a Magpul Hunter (I already have a Sparrow supressor).
For those that don't know the SBX is a shrouded barrel (welded) that has an OAL of 16" with the shroud. It allows a shorter barrel with a suppressor that's non-NFA (the barrel, not the supressor). Of course the barrel is too short for the Hunter stock. So I took a 22mm socket and wrapped it with sand paper (22mm with the paper is slightly larger than the shroud). This made sanding a proper sized opening easy (took ~ 20 careful minutes). I also had to chop down the barrel tray. I'll be playing with the barrel shim to see if free float or shimmed is better. All in all it took about 45 mins to fit the whole thing together.
Just waiting on a Vortex Crossfire. Rail goes on later tonight.
Thought I'd post this in case anyone else was thinking of doing the same.
