This is the first knife my 14 year old made. I rough ground the profile and put the edge on it but the rest was all him.
Shown next to a RR spike like the one it was forged from
    Pretty damn proud of him

    Thanks Mike
I have a couple hundred from a scout trip last year. We were camping right next to the tracks, they were everywhere. Have a great time at camp. Hopeto see you soon

Thanks for all the kind words. He is pretty pleased with himself. He actually got me into this. Now we have a little blacksmith shop. I'll post one of mine whenever I'm actually happy with one

    Really cool. That looks amazing.

I'm on my phone and can't tell. Is that a scandi grind on there or is there a secondary bevel on there, I'm curious. Either way....freaking nice build!!!!!!

I roughed in a Scandi grind before heat treating
When he was finishisg it with a file it went a little convex, so We put a secondary bevel on it.
It took an edge well. Nice and hard

If you go to the Nations Gun Show, Johhny Z is a knife artisan there and he usually has one or two of these for sale.

Don't know if he's any better than dontpanic though :)

That’s a cool looking knife! If he needs anymore spikes I have a few rusty ones just like what he used. How long did it take him to make?

About 2 hours to forge. Heat treat and tempering took another 4hrs(lots of video games while it was in the toaster oven) then another hour or so to clean up the bevels.
I put about 20min in it, establishing the bevel and sharpening it. He doesn't have the patience for that yet
