Stumbled across this heavy barrel from Rosco Manufacturing this morning and picked one up. $80 with free shipping too. Probably limited inventory but worth trying for the money.

Not chrome lined or nitrided? I wouldn’t recommend plain phosphate for a semi automatic rifle.
I agree with you ericoak, the chrome lined barrel is much better. Your point is good for others who may be looking for a "heavy" barrel. This will be for a plinking upper and I clean (maybe over clean to a fault) after going out to the range each time, a habit learned from my Grandfather. That cleaning habit and lack of rapid fire should keep this barrel in great shape for longer than I will be on the earth.

I wouldn’t say chrome lined is better. If I wanted accuracy, I would specifically avoid chrome lining.

Not sure what you're worried about. I have guns that I've been shooting for decades that only get cleaned when fouling becomes an issue. They go in to a climate controlled room for storage. The exceptions being exposure to wet weather and corrosive ammo.

That is good to know atblis - I am just OCD about cleaning based on Grandfather's teachings over 50 years ago. I definitely don't store in damp areas and don't use corrosive ammo. Maybe I should rethink my cleaning compulsion.

Like anything it’s a trade off. There is a reason almost all ar15 barrels are chrome lined (high rate of fire) or nitrided (accuracy). Manufacturers aren’t adding cost for no reason. Some competition barrels are unlined/untreated, but those aren’t $60 barrels.

I had some unlined barrels once, they were very difficult to resell.
