Hey. Im a Anne Arundel local and I've bit interested in getting in with the Anne arundel fish and game gun club. I've heard a good way is to go to their events that are open to the public, like the military rifle one this weekend, has anyone gone before, how does the event usually go down, im just looking for some information, and maybe some friends if I wind up going.

I haven't been to a match lately because I am more into pistols now, but I have been a member there for about 6 years. My suggestion, just go and then meet some good people. That is how I started. I met a good guy that was an RSO and probably the second time I went, I asked him to sponsor me and he did. I also have sponsored 2 people. One of whom is now the Club President.

I would like to say I could help but my time is limited to get to an event. As for the match, take your gun and some ammo. If you have a mat to lay out on, that is helpful but they may have some extra old one's in the closet. You should have at least two mags with you, a safety flag for your gun 9again, they may have some). I believe that you should show up around 8:30 so you have time to get acclimated and then you can help set up before a practice round. Just don't unbox your gun before you are told to do so and the range is hot. There are lots of helpful people there.

It may seem obvious, but if you haven't, I'd recommend reading through all of the range safety rules. It will make sure you're in sync and give you some expectation of handling procedures. You can download them here:

If you haven't seen it, there's an overview of the match format here:

It's a great organization with lots of helpful and friendly folks. You should have a good time.

Along with what the others have told you, you can find out what days high power matches are held on the website, AAFG.org.

For high power matches you will at least shoot from standing and prone. ( I haven't shot matches for a long time so I don't know if they still do kneeling. You need a mat although I have donated a couple so they should have some to lend.

This link will give you the NRA rules but AAF&G doesn't follow all of them due to the time constraints on the range.
