    AND walking. That's the ticket!

    Flashback; 1994.

These articles from yesterday and today talk about the history of National Guard deployments (or rejected requests for it) in DC:

    The latest:

There will not be a vote during this session. Another roundtable is planned for later this fall. After that, officials said the committee will look at making a decision on whether to confirm Smith, who was chosen for the role back in July.

    Looks like it's a done deal: https://georgetowner.com/articles/2...dorses-mpd-acting-chief-smith-police-burnout/

Signifying a degree of unity between the mayor’s office and the city’s elected officials – several of whom had voted in the wake of the George Floyd protests of 2020 to restrict policing measures – the D.C. Council’s Committee on Public Safety and the Judiciary unanimously approved the nomination of Acting Police Chief Pamela A. Smith on Oct. 25 to become the permanent MPD Police Chief, with the nomination heading for a final vote before the full council Nov. 7.

We'll see how long she actually serves for.

However, Smith also said she is considering some changes. Among those changes, Smith said she will invite at-risk youth to meet with her and other senior staff to get a better handle on what's going on.

Chief Smith also said police district boundaries may change and she will seek to enhance recruiting and try to improve relations between officers and members of the community.
