I'm thinking about getting an air rifle to shoot in the basement. Nothing fancy or expensive. Quiet is important. 177 or 22? Gamo, Daisy ,Crossman or something else? I already have an older Daisy breakbarrel 600 fps but it's a little noisy. Thoughts?

Gamo makes one called Whisper or something like that that is supposed to have a suppressor so to speak.

I'm certainly no expert but from my limited experience, there are air rifles that can shoot fast enough to break the sound barrier and will be loud. But like pistol and rifle ammo, the speed can depend on the weight of the pellet. I've got a Hatsan BT65 Elite QE PCP rifle in .22 and it's quiet enough to shoot in my basement with heavy pellets, but with the lighter stuff, it approaches the noise a .22LR would make. It's probably pricier than what you are looking for, but the principle would still apply, I think.

One of the quietest I have found is the Gamo Whisper series. They also happen to like Crosman pellets and are very accurate with them. Plus, those pellets are some of the cheapest you can buy and they are sold at Walmart.

Do you have a 3d printer? A 2240 with a moderator designed by one of our own members is extremely quiet for indoor plinking.

Picked up a Diana Chaser rifle kit a while back. Comes with both a rifle and pistol barrel. There is a moderator on the rifle barrel that can be moved to the pistol barrel if you heat it up in some boiling water to loosen the thread locker.
I shoot it in my apartment and have had no complaints. It is pretty quiet and very accurate with most pellets.
Mounted a pistol scope with the pistol barrel and moderator for most of my indoor shooting with it. At 10 yards it will produce one hole groups using a rest.
