Good gunsmith in SOMD?

I have an old Ruger Standard and I’d like to add an optic to it. I was thinking about sending it in to Ruger for the service, but thought I might be able to find someone local that could do a drill and tap for me so that a weaver style scope base could be added.

If it's in good shape why not leave it original and buy a Mark 4 with a mount already installed?

Obviously cost more but man I hate seeing old guns modified

They made millions of them, I figure it won’t have any value in my lifetime. Plus, it will be fun to shoot a classic.

I have seen some rough work done by Mr. Miller. I wouldn't recommend him.

Keith of Keith's Gunworks in Faulkner, MD does good clean work. If he can't do it right he will say so and turn the work down. I can't say as much for Mr. Miller.

Why not just use a clamp-on mount from B-Square? Mine worked perfectly.
