I am about to move to Maryland from Sweden and I have a few rifles and a shotgun I would like to take with me but is it possible and is it worth the trouble?

Swedish Mauser M96 in cal 6,5x55 made by Oberndorf (Year 1900)
Lever-gun in cal .45colt made by Rossi
M1897 made by Norinco in cal 12/70 (Pump action)

No fancy guns but I like them.

I think your biggest problem will be finding a Federal Firearms Licensee that will do it.

Post a request in the Industry Partners section of the forum.

The Rossi _might_ be an issue due to ITAR. The other two should be GTG once you find an appropriate importer.

Not sure it's going to be worth the trouble, though.

Thanks for the help, I'll look into it and see if it is worth the trouble.
The old Mauser is getting rare over here especially as it is made by Oberndorf and only fired aprox 100 rounds and it shoots like a dream.
I like it and it kind of sucks having to turn it in for destruction as they are though to sell due to the gun laws over here.

Guess I can get guns over there too though. :)

I have been to Arizona a few times so I kind of had a feeling theres guns around.
Even had a few beers with Massad Ayoob when visiting Sierra Vista, Az last year. :)

I would try one of the Industry Partners, if you can. Otherwise, I would talk to Pilkington Competition (www.pilkguns.com) - they do imports, and are small enough to think it worth their while.

I know Engage Armament is an importer, so talk to them. Definitely bring that Mauser if you can. The other two are new made commercial guns that are easy to come by.

Do you plan on settling in the US? If you are going to return to Sweden in a few years, you might as well leave the guns there in the care of someone else (if that's possible).

BTW, we love Swedish Mausers here in the US. I myself have a 1920 Carl Gustafs M/96 with Finn SA stamp in almost pristine condition.

No. There are never enough guns. Especially not now.
Sure there are. Can you up and get a Glock 19 right now? Possibly. An AR? If you got the money. A bolt-action hunting rifle? No problem.

I'm not denying that there is a shortage of different types of guns around, but this is still a very much armed populace and plenty of people are selling; stores and citizens.

    Too much pessimism going 'round.
