This is from my 12 ga. (2-3/4") Remington 1100 w/ "Competition Master" 22" barrel, with a Gobblin' Thunder choke tube, at 25 yards, standing.
The load is a handload - with 1-1/2 oz of #5 shot.
THREE shots. The first and second shot column(s) went through the main hole.
The third shot column peeled apart, and is laying on the ground in front of the 36" plotter paper that I was using for patterning.
All but a very few pieces of shot stayed in a 14" area.
As stated, this is a 2-3/4" chambered 1100 barrel.
Some friends balked at my choice for a turkey gun, and said that my load in a 2-3/4" shell "would never kill a turkey".
They ate their words, when my youngest son used this shotgun and took a good-sized bird with ONE shot at (paced) 27 yards. Turkey dropped where he stood.
Darned near took the Tom's head off.
Well after three trips to four different shops I could not find the Kicks, or any that would fit my Mossy 500. I settled on the Carlson's Long Beard XR. I also saw the Tru Glow
but the reviews were horrible.
The Carlson's is designed to work the best with Winchester Long Beard #5 Shot.
I'm getting ready to try one of these on my Mossy 20 gauge at my first Turkey hunt in a couple of weeks. Will be using a Kent Diamond #4 shot.
I've been looking for a Kicks Gobblin Thunder in 20 G but can't find one.
Believe me it isn't so much the choke as it is the ammo. With my 870, 21" barrel with Rem Extra Full Turkey choke, I patterned many expensive loads that really was very disappointing.
Until I came across Win Long Beard XR. Tested 3" - 70 hits in a 9" circle with #5's and 135 hits with #6 at 50 yards.
I shoot 3" Remington Nitro Turkey #5 through an H.S. Strut Undertaker X-Full out of my Weatherby Upland 12ga. pump. At 40 yards the pattern looks like the photo above of the turkey head target. Both ammo and choke are very affordable and the combo of the two kicks like a Remington Express slug, if not more!
