Can you go shorter than the M1A tanker(16.25" barrel)?

A Socom 16 is 37.25” long with a 16-25” barrel. So technically you can cut it to an 8.25” barrel. Not saying it would “look good either”.

Does anyone else think that Springfield is missing out on money by not offering more retro rifles? Brownells has gone balls to the wall with everything from prototype (style) AR15s to AR 180 reproductions. Think there’s any room for something as wacky as the CIA’s compact covert commie killer...

Edit: Looks like the LaFrance M14K as pictured is 13.5". Shorter than the originals.

Seems like that would impact the gas system/operation.

14". And, yes, you really had to dig deep to lose those 2".

Adding to the questions re: SBR confusion; is the 29" OAL for ALL sbrs, or much like the .22lr vs. 5.56 does it vary on caliber and/or action? I'd like to SBR a .300BO Ruger American Ranch (or possibly a CZ 600 Trail) and cut the barrel to 8"

Applies to all semi-auto centerfire rifles. You can chop a bolt action down as far as you'd like.

Rimfire can be shorter than the 29" OAL, even if it is semi auto.

Or lever , or pump , or single shot , heck , even full auto . Everything except semiauto .
