For Question 7 of the Wear and Cary Permit application it states, "Have you ever been confined or committed, including voluntarily commitment, to a mental institution or hospital for treatment of a mental disorder or disorders?" I was voluntarily admitted to a private psych hospital for a week to depression and overdose of "magnesium vitamins" would this hospitalization impact me getting a wear and carry due to the reason of instability. Also one of the disqualifications for firearms is "suffering from a mental disorder and having a violent history against oneself and others", how do they report this disqualification to NICS or Department of Health. I read my hospitalization report and it said nothing about violence and it just said I purposefully attempted to kill my self by taking 40 magnesium capsules since I had insomnia. Would this get flagged by the physician and get sent to NICS. I have never been arrested nor involuntarily admitted and my voluntarily stay was a little less then a week.

You are fine. You have to be adjudicated to be mentally ill, or a “mental defective” as they put it in lingo more appropriate for the era when they put people in insulin comas.

Voluntary admission of < 30 days is not a disqualifier.

This was almost certainly not reported to NICS.

    This.

BTW, the above forum member is a physician. So his opinion on this matter carries weight.
