I have a question regarding altering the OAL (overall length) of a factory shotgun.

Shotgun in question is a Savage/Stevens 320 "Security" model pump action with factory 18.5" barrel length, and advertised total OAL of 38.25".

I saw some mentions of 26" OAL while digging around.

Does that mean I could cut 12" off of the stock?

Or is that some sort of illegal act?

I would not want to alter barrel length whatsoever.

Should be fine, as long as you don't go under 26"oal. Same as running PGO shotgun.

ATF has recently started looking into PGO shotguns as not having a sporting purpose though. Seems like they'd like to consider them DD's but not sure how serious they want to get on the subject.

Provided you're over 21, you can pistol-grip the shotgun and still be legal.

    well over 21...

This shotgun already has a pistol grip, and I really don't shoulder the stock anyway...same problem with my other rifles as well...I figured since the shotgun is primary HD, it doesn't really matter if I shortened the stock.
