Do you use the ramrod that came with the gun or do use something else?
The reason I ask this because I got this recently:

The ramrod on this looks so nice I hate to damage it.

Most shooters of front stuffers use a range rod. They are plastic with a threaded brass end cap to take accessories like jags for cleaning. I don't know if you can find one that short, you might have to get one for a rifle and cut it down. Do you have a ball starter?

I use a dedicated loading rod...steel, with a nice big plastic ball on the top to save my palm, and a muzzle protector.

It's worth noting that the later percussion target pistols were often made without ramrod pipes - the loading and cleaning rods were kept in the case, which was a lot more convenient.

Did you get the nipple wrench as suggested in your other thread?
I'm new to BP as well and got the Traditions Nipple wrench with the built in nipple pick. That nipple needs to come off when cleaning.
Read up on cleaning methods so you have what you need when your done.
BTW, do you have something to hold it up when loading so that you can use 2 hands when needed?
