So I have a friend who has offered to sell me a Ruger MK III target with a low round count for $200
    Likes:
    -.22lr is still relatively cheap
    - Feels good in my hand
    - 2 lb trigger is a very clean break
    - Good accuracy

    Dislikes:
    - HUGE iron sights.
    - I hear they are a PITA to take apart and clean

    Questions:
    - Are there any good after market iron sights for these? at 30 yards the sight covers a coke can.
    - is $200 a good price for a lightly used mk III?
    - Do these things like federal bulk ammo?
    -alternatives?

If it is stainless...and you don't want it,...I'll give you a $50 finders fee if I buy it...

I have an older MKII that'll shoot anything that I stuff in the magazine, don't know about replacement sights.
They are a little bit tricky to take apart, but not too bad. Certainly not a deal breaker. For $200, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

It's a deal and a half. Don't pass that up. I paid double that for my used Mark III Hunter... with no regrets! I shot it tonight and it still ranks as one of my absolute favorites. It'll be downing pins at the AGC bowling pin shoot this Saturday!

I would probably stay away from that deal. As a matter of fact give me your buddys name and number and I will give him a call and tell him you are not interested.:D

That is a STEAL. I own one...fantastic 22 LRRF pistol. Dead accurate and 100% reliable. The people that complain about how hard these are to strip, clean, and reassemble are hating life because they're doing it wrong. It's actually pretty fast and simple if you do it the way it's supposed to be done. Look here.

That's the 22/45, but the Mk III is identical in procedure. Sometimes you need to persuade the barrel off and on the receiver with a light tap of a plastic-faced mallet. The critical thing to remember is you have to point the barrel up or down at certain points of the procedure; this is necessary to get the internal hammer to drop out of the bolt's way, or to reset the hammer's mainspring link into the mainspring's cup.

    Go for it!
