Alito doesn't have much of a history concerning 2nd Amendment rights, but I did find this post by David Kopel (If you don't know who David Kopel is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Kopel):
In United States v. Rybar, Judge Alito wrote a blistering dissent from the majority opinion which held that, notwithstanding United States v. Lopez, Congress had the power to use the Interstate Commerce power to prohibit the mere possession of machine guns manufactured after May 1986, even though Congress had made no findings about the effect of such machine guns on interstate commerce. Judge Alito's dissent did not address the majority's assertion that Rybar had no Second Amendment rights because Rybar was not a member of the militia.

Neither case clearly shows Judges Luttig or Alito to support or oppose the Standard Model of the Second Amendment. However, I believe that both opinions suggest that judges Luttig and Alito are, at the least, not hostile to the Second Amendment. Moreover, a generous reading of the Fourteenth Amendment, and a willingness to take Lopez seriously are in themselves good signs for persons who support judicial enforcement of the right to keep and bear arms.

All the short blurbs I've read are consistent with what dd214 posted.

Not the best, but not the worst is about the best way to sum it up for now.

I'm still not holding my breath for a sweeping ccw change this year or next.

The Miers' nomination was a decoy! :shocked4:

    Think about it!

Those that hunt deer will relate to this.

What do you do when a doe enters your shooting area, acting nerves?

A lot of experience has tough me to wait for the real Deer to come along.

The real trophy buck will often let the lesser deer (decoy), clear the way, and then follow at a safe distance!

The decoy will expose the danger, and cause you to use-up your ammo.

This will work when the hunter is too quick to shoot.

The true value of this strategy is also enhanced when the hunter believes the buck (Bush) is too unintelligent, to think at this level!

The really first choice (Alito) will now be approved!

    Very possibly true.

Since a Democrat, Reid suggested Meirs and Bush "tried" to get her nominated it looks like he was trying to be a "moderate". Now people will be more inclined to back Alito since Meirs turned into such a debacle.

This is my belief as well.

Democrats who insist on underestimating the wiles of W are thus left with regularly having _no_ explanation as to why there's yet another lump on their heads.
