The DNR has a survey out to gather info on the types of outdoor recreation people enjoy in the state. Please take a moment to fill it out, as it's important they hear from hunters and anglers.
One of the questions provides a response option of "I'm...
Lots of good ideas already shared. Here is one other -- If we get snow between now and the season, put out some corn and a camera the day before. Then follow their tracks n the snow back to where they're roosting. That should give you a general idea. Then try to figure out what they are eating...
This was second worst season for me since I started in 2012. 2020-21 was the absolute worst. In six trips to my spot on the Potomac in St. Mary's, I only managed four buffleheads. Bigger divers like bluebills and canvasbacks and a few mallards started showing up in low numbers the past two...
I've been using a MSR pocket rocket for 10+ years. Small, light, works, starts up easy, with canisters of various sizes readily available just about everywhere.
Coyotes are well established. I've been seeing them in MoCo at McKee Beshers and other places like that for over a decade. If I walk the wet areas on a Sunday during duck season, it's almost a guarantee that I'll see one. I see them in Fairfax County several times a week -- they almost never...
Username checks out! Ha! Are you familiar with these particular Herter's models?
Thanks. I had that issue fixed by a gunsmith -- he had to ream the bore. I shot it the other day and it functions fine now. The ejection reliability isn't 100% but it works well enough that I'm going to keep...
Further update: those Big45 Frontier pads are amazing! Thank you for the tip! Unfortunately the rust had penetrated beyond the bluing, but at least the pads got the rust off with just a little elbow grease. I just ordered more of them.
I really like hunting turkeys, but unless I get an opportunity on a private property where I know exactly where I'll be sitting, I have decided I just can't do it. I've gotten into too much poison ivy over the past few seasons walking in the dark and I pay for it for weeks/months afterwards.
I enjoy taking them apart and cleaning, so I do it every time I shoot one. The only exception is with a shotgun if I only shot a few shells, the weather is dry and I'm hunting again the next day, I'll wait until the end of the trip. Once a year -- generally in February or March when I switch my...
I was able to shoot the rifle yesterday for the first time. It is very accurate - I am by no means an amazing marksman and was able to shoot a 2 inch group of 6 at 50 yards. This makes me want to continue working on the rifle, including getting the rust off using the Frontier wool pad. I put a...
