My brother picked this up last night from Empire (he used Dennis' "find me a gun" service). It's a stunning rifle. It doesn't look like it's been fired much, if at all, after it left the factory. It came with the Mauser test target and a bayonet/sheath. Many claim that this model is the finest Mauser ever made.

    Beautiful!

Though it wasn't the beautiful Brazilian model I was expecting, not that I'd want to see one from 1935...

Dennis had a few crates of brand new ones a few years ago. I regret not buying one then.

    That's a beautiful rifle.

Good ol' Dennis... I have a weakness for contract Mausers with tiger striped stocks, and he knows it! I can only guess what he paid for that model, but I'm sure he will forget about it shortly !

Yeah I've talked to him he's a firearm encyclopedia when it comes to C&R ...he's livin da dream

He has some interesting perspectives. He once told me that he would never, ever buy a German firearm, especially a K98k, unless it came with capture papers. He said that there are just too many fakes and messed with guns out there to pay the prices commanded for these weapons without provenance.

Problem is nowadays the capture papers are being faked too; no wonder as people will pay crazy premiums for them, which just encourages the practice.
