It's been covered a ton on here. The search is a useful tool.

Anyway, fixed blades must be open carried, you can conceal a pen-knife(folder) of any length. That knife would be fine.

    ^This.

Be careful about what you read and hear. Triple check all information. I've heard too many (it hasn't been a lot, but I think any is too many) people insisting that it has to meet certain parameters. A common one is that the blade length cannot exceed your palm size. I thought that was completely ridiculous when I heard it, but a few months afterwards my recruiter spouted the same nonsense, I was able to dissuade any doubts he had, but still. Be on your guard against urban legend laws. They are dangerous and not all cops pay close attention to laws concerning weapons in MD. (I'm basing this off of personal experience, don't ask me for a statistic.) Knowing this information may save you some serious legal hassle in the future.

Here's one of the blades I carry for self defense, luckily I've never had to use it and I hope it stays that way.

I have posted in the past a story of a CCSO deputy (who I know personally) who mistakenly arrested someone carry a folding knife. He was sued and lost...

    http://www.ca4.uscourts.gov/Opinions/Unpublished/011565.U.pdf

The law is very clear on this. In Bacon v. State, 586 A.2d 18 (Md. 1991), the Court of Appeals
addressed the question of whether a folding knife that was unfolded
and locked was illegal under Md. Ann. Code art. 27 § 36(a). The
court started its analysis by defining both penknives and switchblades.
Like the In re Daryl L. court, the Bacon court quotes Mackall’s definition
of a penknife. Holding that the open and locked knife was not
banned by the concealed weapons statute, the court wrote:
On the face of the statute, there is no indication contradicting
the view that a penknife is a penknife whether small
or large, whether the blade is closed or open, whether the
blade is locked open or unlocked, whether it is carried concealed
or openly. Its character is not changed by being carried
openly with the blade unfolded; its dangerous
propensity is merely more easily realized.

    Read it for yourself.

    Pocketknife -

I've carried a Case "Medium Stockman" for most of my adult life.

For 'social work', I carry this - Benchmade Mini-AFCK.

It's funny you posted that. I have been looking for a classic looking pocket knife lately and determined I wanted that same Case knife. Can you recommend a good place to get one?

Many places carry the Case Medium Stockman.
    I've got several.

Bass Pro (The last couple of Medium Stockman knives I've bought, came from Bass Pro.)
    Cabelas
Smoky Mountain Knife Works (They have a Chestnut Bone Medium Stockman that I really want!)
