Do I really need another one? I'm not even sure I got all that great of a deal, considering it's missing all accessories, the metal sling insert thingies, non-matching bolt and has some minor corrosion. Here's some pics, tell me what y'all think.

    I gave $140 for it.

You are not missing the sling slot liners, half liner in front and no liner in back is correct for a wartime stock. As for accessories, the only one that seems to be worth anything is the bayonet, so you are not missing much. The cleaning rod will set you back about $15 but you still did pretty good.

It looks good to me, I think you got a good deal. I paid I think around $120 for my M44 a few years ago, and it seems that they've gone up considerably since then. I don't give a crap about the 'accessories' like the oil can, etc.

It has a single ear bayonet lug which makes it a war time production rifle.
$140 not such a bad price and I don't hold much value in the accesories except the sling.

Is it true that while the Mosin 91/30s had the two chamber bottle for cleaner and oil, the M44s came with a two chamber bottle filled with 1 oil/cleaner mix, and the other chamber had BenGay for the shooters shoulder?

I have a few M44's and I don't find the recoil too bad. It's not like 12 gauge 3" magnum buckshot, they smart a bit.

Nice find. It's not so much bigtime recoil, as it is that metal butt plate. After 40-50 rounds, even with light ball, you begin to notice. With just a Tee shirt on, it comes alittle quicker. And with a Tee and heavy ball...

Thanks for the info on the "wartime" M44s not having sling liners, that makes sense now. My other 1945 Izzy M44 does have the metal inserts, but the stock is different in other ways, for instance it's made of a much lighter colored wood, almost blonde. I'm guessing my other '45 Izzy is a post-war?
