Frederick County Sheriff's Office, MD - Integrity Driven • Community Built

    ·

On March 6 and 2, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office deputies, once again, seized multiple weapons, ammunition, and various narcotics, which resulted in several arrests.
“The trend we are seeing is that deputies enforcing the traffic laws in the normal course of their duties are increasingly proactive in seizing guns from individuals that are prohibited from possessing firearms or are illegally transporting the loaded handguns,” said FCSO Sheriff Chuck Jenkins. “This is a very serious officer safety issue that places your Frederick County Sheriff’s Office deputies at greater risk and heightens tensions in making traffic stops, especially at night.
“There is a clear nexus in this criminal behavior, between the illegal drug trade and possession of firearms, mostly concealed handguns. I do want to emphasize that we are enforcing the gun laws currently in place that law breakers entirely ignore. This should be a clear signal to law makers that more gun laws will do nothing to protect the public as criminals continue to ignore and break these laws.”
    March 6 Arrest
On March 6, at approximately 10:50 p.m., a FCSO deputy stopped a Volkswagen Jetta in the area of Tennison and Lambert Drives, after observing the driver fail to stop at a designated stop sign.
After detecting a strong smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, the deputy, conducted a search of the vehicle and driver. The deputy found a loaded Polymer 80 9-mm handgun on the driver and approximately 11.4 grams of marijuana in the vehicle and on the driver.
Deputies arrested Malachi James Witherspoon, age 19, of Frederick and his five charges include:
    • Possession of a firearm - minor
    • Loaded handgun in vehicle
    • Handgun in vehicle
    • Handgun on person
    • Loaded handgun on person.
    March 2 Arrests
On March 2, at approximately 11:05 p.m., a FCSO deputy stopped a Chevrolet Trailblazer around Walnut Pond Court, in Middletown, Maryland, for driving at high rates of speed. During the stop, once the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver fled the scene where he stopped his vehicle at the end of a parking lot and then fled on foot.
The deputy conducted a foot chase and quickly apprehended the suspect. Upon a search of the suspect and vehicle, the deputy found a loaded Glock 19X handgun, Glock 19X magazine, 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition, along with numerous narcotics.
Deputies arrested, Dashawn Alejandro Pollard, age 22 of Frederick and his nine charges include:
    • Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS) – not cannabis
    • Handgun in vehicle
    • Loaded handgun in vehicle
    • Obstructing and hindering
    • Resisting/interfering with an arrest
    • Handgun on person
    • Loaded handgun on person
    • Illegal possession of ammunition
    • Regulated firearm – illegal possession.
Additionally, on March 2, at approximately 10:35 p.m., FCSO deputies responded to a domestic in progress in the 6700 block of Overton Circle, in Frederick. The subject relayed to the dispatchers that the suspect punched her in the face and pulled a gun on her during a dispute.
After arriving on scene, deputies quickly spotted the suspect, who fled the area on foot. The deputies started a foot chase and successfully detained the suspect. Upon a search of a backpack the suspect wore and ditched during the foot chase, deputies found a loaded Canik TP9 handgun and approximately 83 grams of marijuana.
Deputies arrested Trent Cornelius Thomas, age 33, of Frederick, and charged him with the following 10 charges:
    • Firearm use/felony-violent crime
    • Firearm possession with/felony conviction
    • Handgun on person

Deputies transported all suspects to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center for booking.

I had no idea that "Handgun in a vehicle" was a charge, guess I'm going boating this afternoon, staying safe by sticking to long guns.

Wondering what the DA and His lawyer actually produce before the judge and IF/when Bail is set-
most likely let out on bond...
