I'm posting in the Rifle forum, but the Drilling by definition has shotgun barrel(s) as well. A friend lost her dad and inherited an older German Drilling. Cleaning and looking it over for her was a pleasant in instructive exercise. The gun as two 16 gauge barrels and a 9.3x57R rifle barrel. I did some Internet snooping but was unable to find a manufacturer. Lots of proof marks and very nice engraving. There's a cartridge storage compartment in the butt stock that held 4 rounds, and that's how I determined the rifle caliber. Enjoy the photos of an unusual(in the USA anyhow) firearm.

Many...if not most...drillings in the US are of European calibers that are odd to us. I looked for a long time and found this Colt/Sauer Drilling in 12gauge over .30-06. Most I had seen over the years were either very expensive or in condition not commensurate with the asking price. I found this one in a small auction several years ago.

That cartridge trap for storage is something I want to include in the next bolt action sporting rifle I build.
I have plans and instructions for fabrication, just haven't tackled one yet.
I'm not keen on drilling's but cannot, not admire the craftsmanship in their construction.
