Bought a used kiln today. Going to hook up a PID controller to it.

I may even PLC control it, and have a HMI interface.

I have all the PLC/HMI Software (Allen Bradley) and required components to do it.

This way I could basically set up different batch programs for each application etc.

Plan to use it for Cerakote, and Heat Treatment.

    :D

Please get back to everyone on how the PID Controls work out for you. I myself am very curious, I believe using the PLC would be a lot of work. Thanks.

You can also use it to slump glass bottles. We did it with 1.75 l Grey Goose bottles. They make great cheese plates!

That sounds like something my Parents and the Wine Group they belong to would love. Could you post a picture of one please ?

Nah, Pretty easy. Depends how much overkill I want to do i guess.

You can get a PID controller, Thermocouple (TC), and a Solid State Relay (SSR) for under $100 on ebay. A few guys on AKFiles went that route and had good results

I may do that intally and if it doesnt perform as expexted the I will go to the next level.

There are youtube vids on this:

    Heat treating

Hey got a question, how hot will it get? I have two AK recievers that I need heat treated. They need to get up to 1400 deg.

Will it get that hot, if so could you do the heat treating on them for me?
If so how soon could you do it?

Yes, I understand what's needed for PID and PLC Control systems, I guess I never thought about using them on a kiln. My Ex makes glass beads and uses a small kiln and temperature automation would make it a lot easier. Thanks for the video link.

It will get hot enough, issue is the set up is in Louisiana, sorry.

You could always go the MAPP torch route.

    Kiln

Thanks, I ended up using my HF propane flamethrower/brush burner, that worked quite well!

Thank you Sir, I like it... Would you remember the Temperature and time that you had it in the kiln ?
That looks like great stocking stuffers for the social wino's in my family. LOL.
