I haven't done any reloading yet, but I bought a Lee Anniversary kit and some dies for 7.62x54R. So if you've got a decent powder for the M-44 with 150-grain bullets, I'd be interested in a pound (I already have primers).

I Load for the M44 . I've tried (Bullets) 150 Gr SP, 180gr RN & 174gr BTHP using IMR 4895 but can't say I narrowed things down to suggest Data. I also Load 8mm Mauser and have got the best results (100yds) for 200gr BTHP using (44grs) IMR 4064.
The one thing about reloading is that it makes you aware that each gun will function & perform differently. If your looking for a all around performance Cartridge it takes time & patience!

I'm tapped out at the moment, but do have a supplier suggestion. I've ordered powder from Graf's the last few times over the past four-five years and they've been excellent vendors. They have a tiered discount structure: at one order total minimum (32# of powder), they decline HazMat fees, and their shipping is included in their pricing. Volume (over $500) discounts can be 5%. Even w/o the HazMat/Volume breaks, they're very competitvely priced. If whoever organizes this buy would give them a call and get particulars, you can likely set yourself up to knock off a chunk of money.

Try a .311 or .312 170 gr or 180 gr bullet instead of the standars .308. Try different bullet weights.

I would like to start reloading .223 and .308. I don't know what the correct powders or primers are for those. Any suggestions? How many rounds can I make with a pound of powder for the .223 or .308? I've never reloaded rifle cartridges-just pistol.

Buy some reloading books like Hornady or Sierra, good information with lots of loading tables. If you really want to do it on the cheap try the local library and write the loads down or make copies.

Depends on Load Grainage! There are 7000 grains per 1lb.

    For 5.56mm/.223 Remington:
I suggest these as your top 4 Powders,
    1. Hodgdon Varget
    2. IMR 4895
    3. Hodgdon H335
    4. Winchester 748

    For .308 Winchester/7.62x51mm:
    1. IMR 3031
    2. IMR 4895
    3. IMR 4064

    Primers,
For 5.56mm/.223 Remington: = Small Rifle
    For .308 Winchester/7.62x51mm: = Large Rifle
Note: I've had great success using CCI Benchrest Primers! There more expensive but worth the money!

    Lambo,
Thanks for the info! I will eventually try to purchase and read the manuals. As it stands- I will be on the various campaign trails for the next few months. For the time being, I will accept what lambo says and be willing to purchase a few pounds of listed powder if we actually get a group buy going.
I'd also be willing to go in on any reloading group buy- press, dies, accessories.... I want to have a separate rifle "system".
