I dont think so. Stopped by a gun shop in NC to get some mags and hold the latest sig 365 with 17 round grip, forgot the model. Fits like a 48. They both just fit my hand. Sig is a nicer for sure but the glock will always work after thousands of rounds. 40$ gets you 15 rounds. When you consider g23 or g20, sig cant compete. A g23 with 2 rnd extention gets you 15 rounds with same reliability with a huge advantage of 1st round stopping power. Mags are 30$ for all glocks, they didnt have any 17rd sig mags in stock or even a price.

If only glock would make metal only mags for both 48 and 23 frames, not sure why they dont.

When the last sword is beaten into a plowshare, the guy guarding the operation will have a Glock 19.
Some people think Glocks are ugly. Everyone knows they are some of the most reliable firearms ever built.

I’m not a Glock fanboy, but They aren’t going anywhere for a long time to come. Even with Everyone copying them in one way or another.

Nothing wrong with Glock. They are doing just fine. I am a mostly a Classic P22x Sig guy myself, but I do have one Glock, a G34 MOS Gen5. that I wouldn't trade for any other striker fired pistol.

Glocks you say? Go here and read:

Want a Glock at Blue Label prices (ie:CHEAP)?
Join GSSF and get the coupon (or be a Vet, LEO, FD....)
Prices? Ballpark, your dealer may vary.

Are they in trouble in the short-term? No.

Do companies that fail to innovate generally have long-term issues? Yes.

    (The truth about Glock)
In February 1980 the Austrian Army issued a requirement for a new handgun. Gaston Glock, a knifemaker who made knives and bayonets for the army, decided to try his hand at the gun manufacturing business. After buying and trying many types of existing handguns, consulting with firearm specialists to see what they would like in a handgun, and a presumably a great deal of trial and error, Glock’s first pistol, the Glock 17, won the army contract for twenty thousand pistols.

Glock’s handgun design, an early adopter of the use of polymers to reduce weight, made the pistol relatively lightweight and easy to carry. The seventeen round detachable box magazine was much larger than most handguns of the time. Recoil from the nine millimeter ammunition was quite manageable. An emphasis on mechanical reliability made the Glock 17 an attractive choice for police and special operations units that used handguns as their duty pistol, especially in offensive roles.

The happy Glock, model 18, fires 1,200 rounds per minute

OK, So I am an old guy who likes steel and wood firearms, but with the new CCW rules have been shooting more with Firearms that lend themselves to carry. Never been a Glock guy, only ever owned one until I recently purchased a 43X. After a trigger and sight swap I really do like it and enjoy shooting it. So being somewhat a Johnny come lately to Glocks I have been shooting several other models with the thoughts of buying a larger model.

In researching guns in this genre of polymer striker fired handguns I realized how many companies have "cloned" this type of gun. Back 15 years ago when I bought my G26, there weren't too many choices but now everyone copies. I realize Glock has a huge following and great after market support but they have to be losing market share ,,,, Right ? I don't see any new Glock products coming to market, just GEN changes. When I go to gun stores that are well stocked I see them pushing CANIK, STR-9 (Stoeger), Taurus, etc.

A lot of my recent range time is spent with nephews, and I see a lot of younger shooters but they are into different types of firearms, many I have never heard of. Not as many Glocks though as I used to see, just wondering out loud.
15 years ago most of the other choices for polymer framed striker fired pistols were already available - you may not have been specifically aware of them, but they were.

Something else to consider is that this is a gun-owners forum, so we tend to be knowledgeable about all of the other brands and products out there, but what about the millions of other every-day folks who aren't into guns? They ALL know about Glock because of a couple of things:

    1. The name - it's just a cool name to say - it's easy to remember and rolls off the tongue.
    2. Because the name is easy to remember, it makes its way into all manner of media - rappers mention it because the name makes it easy to incorporate into rhyme, and it sounds good, and because it's easy to remember, it's also featured in a lot of TV and movies.

Most folks who aren't gun owners know about Glocks for those reasons. Do they know about the Walther P99 or PPQ? Do they know about the Springfield XD or XDM? Do they know about the S&W M&P or the H&K VP9, FN 509, or a myriad of others that are equally as good if not better? Nope. But they know about Glock.

I'd venture to guess that there are probably more Glocks sold than all of the others combined, even if you don't include all of the sales to Law Enforcement.

in any case, I doubt if all of the other available options are really putting that big of a dent into Glocks sales, mostly because non-discerning people are going to go to Glock as a first choice, simply on name recognition alone.

TrickG...Very good point. Also almost every time I see a video of thugs shooting each other they are doing the Gansta Glock hold....free advertising. If they did a drive-by with a Canik SFX they would be "dissed" Seriously though being first to the game goes a long way I guess.

I still think that the name itself is part of what led to the success of Glock. While it's true that they were the first to the game to use a polymer frame, the name is just so easy to remember, and it sounds cool when you say it. The fact that the pistol came out with flying colors under torture testing didn't hurt.

I remember seeing some of the initial writeups on Glock pistols in my Dad's Guns & Ammo and American Rifleman magazines, and I remember how controversial they were at the time. Old farts were all, "I'm not going to use a damned Tupperware gun!" but the thing that sealed the deal was how well they held up under intense conditions. Water, mud, sand, dirt, grit - those original Glock pistols just kept chugging along.

"I'm not going to use a damned Tupperware gun!" - I remember this and the liberal news media sensationalism as well. "Oh no, people will now be able to sneak plastic gun through airport security scanning with guns like Glock!"

I owned a Glock 17 for a couple years, low SN "high-cap" tupperware model I picked up in LA in '88, IIRC; couldn't shoot it for sh!t. BAD trigger, BAD ergonomics, non-replaceable grip-panels, slippery when sweaty, BAD-BAD-BAD.

I used an as-issued M9 (model 92) Beretta and did the pistol combat course twice at the 25th ID (Light - less brains, more drilling) in '93, '94, missing only 2 targets (parallax error from gas mask), sold the Glock.

SIG's, S&W revolvers, CZ's and 1911's work for me. Close my eyes, grab gun, hold up to line of sight, open eyes, sights line up every time.

Glock? NFW. I haven't got a French gene in my body, apparently.

OTOH, kinda sorry I ever sold it, I'm sure some of the people I've taught basic pistol to over the decades could've at least gotten a sense about how much these pistols suck first-hand, but I try not keeping junk around the house that's broken.

    JMHO.

I've never understood the love affair some folks have with the Glock. I can't tell you how many times I've read something to the effect of "Glocks always go 'bang'" or similar, but I've watched SxS torture tests where Glocks are put up against other pistols, and the Glock comes up wanting, getting fairly handily out-performed by other makes and models.

There is no magic fairy dust that gets sprinkled on a Glock, and they don't have a lock or monopoly on creating good designs that work well - especially not now, some 40ish years past their introduction. Anything that Glock designed 40 years ago has been duplicated and improved not only by Glock themselves, but by virtually every other player in the market as well. That, "always goes bang" statement can be said of just about any of them.

There are plenty of other pistols out there with better ergonomics that are just as reliable, if not more reliable than Glock. Consider, Glock had an entry when the US Military was looking to replace the Beretta. They chose a Sig, not a Glock. It was close, but the Sig won out due to a few factors - ergonomics was a main factor.

I like that ! Yea maybe you all are correct but I'm going to try and find production numbers. I will say something about reliability, IF they are as bulletproof as their reputation claims then Gaston is a friggin genius. I recently took my 43x apart to change trigger components and was amazed at how that little cheap looking plastic frame manages to be so reliable. OTOH I have over 500 rds thru it already and just keeps going, even after I worked on it !
I've messed some stuff up in my changing parts around because of some parts that weren't in spec. It was an easy fix and working perfectly 15 minutes after identifying the issue.

I've got at least a few thousand rounds through my 17 and several hundred through my 19, 34 and 21L. No idea how many through my 21 as it is a former LE gun. Several hundred, maybe close to 1000 from me. I assume thousands from someone else.

Just replace recoil springs every few thousand rounds (3k? 5k?) and striker springs something like every 10k and that is mostly all that will wear out.

I am in the crowd where I actually love the ergos on the gen 3 glocks. At least on the compact and full size frames. Ditto big boy frames like the 20/21. Though the 20/21SF is a little nicer.
